Doha, 04 June 2012, In the frame of constructive partnership between South Africa Paralympic Wheelchair basketball team (Under the sponsorship of Sasol Company) , Qatar Paralympics Committee (QPC) and cooperation with the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Embassy of South Africa to Qatar the “ Definitely Able” Campaign that aims to promote for the concept “ Your disabled but.. Definitely Able” was launched on Monday.
The “Definitely Able” campaign involves the Qatar Olympic Committee and Athletes from the Qatar Paralympic Committee taking part in a series of events across Doha aimed at raising awareness throughout the community that being disabled does not have to hinder ones dreams. The joint partnership will include the highly anticipated Chairs vs. Champs an exhibition game at City Center on June 7th at 6:00pm near the ice skating ring, where the South African Wheelchair Basketball team will highlight their special abilities as they master the game of basketball. The awareness campaign will kick start with visits from the Qatar Paralympic Athletes and the South African Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball teams to the Shafalla Center, Al – Noor Institute for the Blind and local schools within Qatar providing opportunities for autograph signing to name a few.
Speaking on the occasion, The Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General H.E. Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said: “We are proud to have partnered with Sasol for the “Definitely Able” Campaign and hope that through this campaign, we are successful in changing lives for the better. If you believe, as we do, that sport has the power to effect real change in people’s lives; South African Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball team (WBSA) is a wonderful example of how that change can be achieved.”
‘Definitely Able’ will be officially launched during a Dinner which will pay tribute to all those who have made a significant contribution to the empowerment of the disabled. The event will be attended by Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, General Secretary of the Qatar Paralympic Committee Dr. Hassan Al-Ansari and Sasol senior management along with the South African Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball team (WBSA).
“The Definitely Able campaign focuses on what one can accomplish regardless of his or her disability that everyone is able, definitely able to be what they want to be and do what they want to do. Through this campaign, we would like to create a very positive attitude amongst people from all walks of life”, said Mr. Marjo Louw, Country President, Sasol.
“Qatar continues to build on its strong commitment to sports for all person both disabled and able bodied. The Qatar Paralympic Committee is dedicated to empowering and encourages both youths and adults to become active in sports as it not only helps the physical body but provides an opportunity to engage in social activities. The support of the Qatar Government, along with the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Qatar Paralympic Committee and many school programs now offer such an opportunity said Dr. Hassan Al Ansari, General secretary of Qatar Paralympic Committee.
