Dr. Thani Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari is a distinguished leader in sports administration and public service, currently holding the position of 2nd Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee since 2017 and Vice-President for West Asia at the Olympic Council of Asia since 2019. With decades of experience in various significant roles, Dr. Al-Kuwari has consistently demonstrated his commitment to advancing sports both in Qatar and internationally.

He has previously served as President of the Qatar Athletics Federation and was Vice-President of the Organizing Committee for the World Athletics Championships held in Doha in 2019, showcasing his leadership on the global stage.

National Contributions

His leadership extended to significant positions within the Qatar Armed Forces, where he served as Assistant Minister of State for Defense for Financial Affairs. He has chaired key committees, including the Personnel Loan Fund at the Ministry of Defense, demonstrating his influence in both military and sports sectors.

Academic Achievements

Dr. Al-Kuwari holds an impressive array of academic qualifications, including a PhD in Project Management and an MBA from the University of Lille in France. He also earned a Master’s Degree in International Sports Law from the University of Lleida in Spain (2021) and an Executive Master in Sports Law from the Qatar Olympic Academy (2019). Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami, USA.

Recognized for his leadership capabilities, Dr. Al-Kuwari has been involved in organizing major international sporting events, including the 24th Men’s World Handball Championship and the 2015 Boxing and IPC Championships in Doha. He is affiliated with prestigious organizations such as the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Project Management Institute in the USA, and is fluent in both Arabic and English, enhancing his effectiveness as a leader in diverse environments.
