Curtain comes down on SOP Ramadan Football Tournament

Doha: The curtains have fallen on the SOP Ramadan Football Tournament, which kicked off at the beginning of the month, featuring the participation of 32 government and private schools. The tournament concluded with Secondary Religious Institute clinching the title after defeating Belgravia School 4-3 in the final match, held on Friday at Aspire.

The award ceremony took place immediately after the final, where H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, President of the Qatar School Sports Association and Chairman of the SOP Organizing Committee, presented the prizes to the winners in the presence of QSSA members and SOP officials.

Secondary Religious Institute secured first place and lifted the championship trophy, while Belgravia School claimed the silver medals and the runner-up trophy. MES Indian School finished third, earning bronze medals.

Expressing his delight over the tournament’s success, H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani emphasized the significance of the event, which concluded with a well-deserved triumph for Secondary Religious Institute.

Speaking after the award ceremony, he stated:

"We are extremely pleased with how the tournament turned out. The event witnessed massive participation and strong engagement, reflecting the excellence of this edition. The large presence of parents and spectators added to the success. Our primary goal is to bring together school students to compete in a unique Ramadan atmosphere, fostering a community spirit among high school students. Moreover, we saw great interest from clubs looking to scout new talents, which further boosted the tournament's impact."

"The SOP is a national program aimed at discovering young talents and nurturing their development. The success of the Ramadan tournament serves as a major motivation to strive for even greater achievements in the future." He added.

Looking ahead, H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani emphasized the intention to expand competition in the next edition, considering the tournament's continuous growth.

"We plan to broaden the scope of competition in the next edition. Given our year-on-year success, we envision introducing women's competitions and adding more sports alongside football. This will not only help in talent identification but also contribute to promoting sports across schools."

He also extended his gratitude to all success partners, sponsors, and the organizing committee for their efforts in delivering a tournament that lived up to high expectations.
