Doha – The Athletes’ Commission of the Qatar Olympic Committee launched a specialized workshop on Sunday, running through Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Al Zubarah Hall in the committee’s headquarters.
The workshop brought together around 12 female athletes, most of them from the younger generation, representing several national sports federations. Over three days, the program featured two daily training sessions .
The initiative aims to equip participants with advanced practical skills that strengthen their presence both on and off the field of play. It also reflects the Qatar Olympic Committee’s strategy of empowering athletes and supporting their professional development.
The program combined multiple themes with interactive sessions. On the opening day, athletes met with members of the Athletes’ Commission, followed by a workshop delivered in cooperation with the Qatar Anti-Doping Commission. Dr. Senaid Al-Marri, Director of Sports Affairs at Qatar University, led a session on safeguarding in sport, highlighting prevention measures against harassment and abuse.
Day two featured two specialized sessions: the first focused on sports nutrition and the importance of mental health for athletes, and how these factors impact performance, consistency, and physical output, in collaboration with a team from Aspetar at Aspire Zone Foundation.
In the closing session of the workshop, Dr. Sunaid Al Marri, Director of Sports Affairs at Qatar University, spoke about mechanisms for preventing harassment and abuse in the sports field.
Mr. Abdulla Mohammed Al Marri, Head of Internal and External Communication Unit at the QOC’s International Cooperation and Communication Department, presented a brief overview in the first part of the second lecture, covering media interaction skills, including interpreting body language, understanding the current media landscape, and responding positively to sensitive questions and topics concerning athletes. In the second part, Mr. Mohammed Zeidan spoke about the effective use of social media platforms.
This program forms part of the Qatar Olympic Committee’s ongoing efforts to empower athletes, raising awareness of the holistic aspects of sporting life including physical and mental health, media skills, and communication aligned with the principles and values of the Olympic Movement.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Nada Mohamed Wafa, Deputy Secretary of the Athletes’ Commission, said: “This workshop marks an important step in preparing young female athletes, providing them with practical experience that enhances their active role and representation at both national and international levels. Today, non-technical aspects such as health awareness and media communication have become integral to shaping the identity of the modern athlete, in line with Olympic standards and the aspirations of Qatari sport.”
