Team Qatar win Third Stage of FIBA U23 3x3 Nations League Asia-Pacific

Doha: The Qatari national men’s basketball team captured the top spot in the third stage of the FIBA U23 3x3 Nations League Asia-Pacific, currently being hosted by the Qatar Basketball Federation at Al Gharafa Hall from May 28 to June 3.

The tournament brings together top-tier under-23 teams from across the Asia-Pacific region in both the men's and women's competitions. Participating nations include host Qatar, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Chinese Taipei.

Qatar delivered a standout performance in the men’s final, defeating New Zealand 16–12 to clinch the third-stage title. New Zealand had previously claimed victory in both the first and second stages of the tournament. Earlier in the group phase, the Qatari squad earned wins over Chinese Taipei (21–17) and Indonesia (22–10), finishing their run with a total of 260 points, while New Zealand still leads the overall standings with 280 points.

The Qatari men's lineup features Hamad Yassin Ismail Musa, Zainuddin Badri, Nizar Mahmoud, Ahmed Saeed Mohammed, and Mubarak Jama.

Following the final, Abdullah Sultan Al Jaber, board member of the Qatar Basketball Federation, awarded the team their championship trophy.

In the women’s competition, New Zealand emerged victorious in the third stage after defeating Chinese Taipei 20–13 in the final. The stage win marks New Zealand’s first title in the women’s bracket, with the championship trophy presented by Talal Saad Al Mughaiseeb, tournament director.

Despite a strong start to the tournament, the Philippines women's team, winners of the first and second stages, finished behind New Zealand in this round. They had previously defeated Chinese Taipei 21–10 in the opening round and once again overcame them in the final (20–13), collecting 200 points to maintain their lead in the standings.

The Qatari women’s team, composed of Salha Ismail, Mona Abdel Moneim, Sama Jaser, and Lamees Jamal, faced stiff competition in Group B, falling to Chinese Taipei (21–6) and Singapore (21–5).

This year’s Nations League serves as a qualifying event for the FIBA U23 3x3 World Cup, which will take place in Xiong'an, China from September 17 to 21. The men's and women's champions, along with the highest-scoring team across all stages, will secure qualification for the global event.
