WTT Youth Star Contender Doha 2025 concludes

Doha: The WTT Youth Star Contender Doha 2025 tournament wrapped up today, marking the end of the second event in Qatar’s International Table Tennis Series. 

Held at Aspire Women’s Sports Hall since January 27, the series continues with the Feeder Championship, running until February 8. Organized by the Qatar Table Tennis Association in collaboration with World Table Tennis (WTT), the tournament has attracted over 400 players from 60 countries, reinforcing Qatar’s role as a premier destination for international table tennis.

The WTT Youth Star Contender Doha 2025 tournament featured 10 competition categories, covering boys' and girls' singles, doubles, and mixed doubles in both the under-15 and under-19 age groups.

In the boys' under-19 singles final, South Korea’s Lee Sangsoo clinched the title with a 3-1 victory over compatriot Kim Jaeyoon.

In the girls' under-19 singles final, South Korea’s Hyo Yareem dominated, securing a 3-0 win against Philippines’ Kaith Cruz.

The boys' under-19 doubles championship went to South Korea’s Choa Giwook and Australia’s Won Bai, who defeated Croatia’s Ivan Hansel and Leon Benko 3-0 in the final.

In the girls' under-19 doubles, South Korea’s Choa Sion and Choa Nahyeon emerged victorious with a 3-0 win over India’s Siyali Wani and Tanisha Kotisha.

In the under-19 mixed doubles, South Korea’s Kwon Hyuk and Yoo Yareem took the gold after defeating Austria’s Nina Skarbienz and Julian Rzihochack 3-0.

The boys' under-15 singles saw South Korea’s Lee Sangsoo claim another title, overcoming Ma Young Min 3-1.

In the girls' under-15 singles, Germany’s Kohari Itagaki triumphed with a 3-1 win against South Korea’s Hyo Yareem.

The boys' under-15 doubles was won by Turkey’s Gurkam Okal and Kenan Kahraman, who beat South Korea’s Ma Young Min and Azerbaijan’s Onur Guluzad 3-1.

In the girls' under-15 doubles, Germany’s Josefina Noman and Kohari Itagaki secured the gold with a 3-0 victory over Egypt’s Farida Thabet and Malaysia’s Dania Mohamed.

The under-15 mixed doubles title was claimed by Turkey’s Gurkam Okal and Germany’s Kohari Itagaki, who secured a commanding 3-0 win against Malaysia’s Dania Mohamed and Lee Huj An.

The winners were crowned by Khalil Al-Mohannadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association, President of the Arab and Asian Table Tennis Federations, and First Vice President of the International Table Tennis Federation. Several Gulf and Arab federation officials also attended the awards ceremony.

Al-Mohannadi praised the tournament for its exceptional level of competition and flawless organization, highlighting the participation of some of the world’s top-ranked youth players and the presence of high-ranking officials from across the globe.

“We organize these high-level tournaments every year, but this edition is particularly special as it serves as a test event for the upcoming World Table Tennis Championships in May,” Al-Mohannadi told QNA.

Al-Mohannadi emphasized that Qatar last hosted the World Table Tennis Championships in 2004 and is now preparing for its second edition.

“We are committed to delivering an exceptional and historic edition of the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships in May,” he stated, extending his gratitude to the Qatar Olympic Committee, led by H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, for its continuous support in hosting major international tournaments.
