Kuwait City: Team Qatar will kick off their campaign at the 10th Arab Men’s Handball Cup with a highly anticipated clash against Saudi Arabia on Monday, as the tournament gets underway in Kuwait and runs through May 11, featuring nine participating nations.
The Qatari squad are placed in Group B alongside Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. Group A includes Egypt, Iraq, and Bahrain, while Group C features hosts Kuwait, the UAE, and Morocco. According to the tournament regulations, the group winners will advance directly to the semifinals, along with the best second-placed team across the three groups.
Led by Qatar Handball Association board member Adel Hilal Al Enazi, the Qatari delegation traveled to Kuwait earlier today with a 20-player roster. The lineup includes Anadin Soljalkovic, Ahmed Magdy Abdelrahim, Filip Danijel Saric, Anis Abderrazak Zouaoui, Ahmed Mohamed Maddadi, Alaeddine Nabil Belrashed, Nasreddine Makediche, Mohamed Ali Lotfi Hammam, Amin Noureddine Kheis, Eldar Musovic, Amin Mowafaq Zekar, Wael Omar Al-Mazoughi, Wajdi Ibrahim Sanan, Abdulrahman Tarek Abdullah, Abdelhadi Taha Al-Nimr, Rafael Capote, Mostafa Amir Abdelmoneim, Abdulaziz Mohamed Al-Mughni, Mario Tomic, and Firas Al-Munsif Al-Zamzami.
Egypt dominated the early years of the championship, winning the first two editions in 1975 and 1977. Kuwait captured the title in 1979 and 1988, Tunisia lifted the trophy in 1986 and 1993, Saudi Arabia triumphed in 1998, Algeria claimed gold in 2000, and Bahrain were crowned champions in the most recent edition in 2002.
