Kuwait, May 06 (QNA) - The Qatari national handball team secured a spot in the semifinals of the 10th Arab Men's Handball Championship after a narrow 31–30 victory over Tunisia on Tuesday in their second match of the tournament, currently being held in Kuwait and running through May 11.

With this win, Qatar moved to four points, clinching the top spot in Group B and becoming the first team to qualify for the semifinals.

The Qatari team previously defeated Saudi Arabia 31-22 in their opening match on Monday.

The tournament features nine participating Arab nations: Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, UAE, and Bahrain.

The teams are divided into three groups: Group A includes Egypt, Iraq, and Bahrain; Group B includes Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia; and Group C features Kuwait, UAE, and Morocco.

According to the tournament rules, the top team from each group advances directly to the semifinals, along with the best second-placed team across all groups.

Egypt won the first two editions of the Arab Men's Handball Championship in 1975 and 1977. The titles of the following four editions were shared by Kuwait (1979 and 1988) and Tunisia (1986 and 1993). Saudi Arabia claimed the title in 1998, Algeria in 2000, and Bahrain in the most recent edition in 2002. (QNA)
