Doha: Team Qatar secured a spot in the men’s final of the 1st West Asian Volleyball Association (WAVA) Beach Volleyball Tour after defeating Bahrain in straight sets (21–15, 21–14) in the semifinal held Friday at Al Gharrafa Beach.
The championship, which includes men’s and women’s events, is being held in Doha with the participation of 19 teams representing seven countries from across West Asia.
Qatar’s pairing of Mahmoud Essam and Saif El Din El Majeed delivered a dominant performance throughout the match, converting their momentum into a decisive victory that sends them into Saturday’s final.
Qatar will now face Oman, who overcame Saudi Arabia in their semifinal, also in straight sets (21–15, 21–15). Bahrain went on to clinch third place later Friday, beating Saudi Arabia 2–0 (21–17, 21–11) in the bronze medal match.
In the women’s competition, the Lebanon 1 team advanced to the final after defeating Qatar 1 – comprised of Haya Abu Issa and Malak Hashem – 2–0 (21–14, 21–8). The other semifinal saw Lebanon 2 come from behind to defeat Jordan 2–1 (12–21, 21–18, 15–8), setting up an all-Lebanese final.
Jordan secured third place in the women’s competition with a convincing 2–0 win (21–13, 21–6) over Qatar 1 in the third-place playoff on Friday evening.
