Qatar’s Beach Volleyball Duo Clinch Gold at Bingtan Asian Tour

Bingtan , China — Qatar’s beach volleyball stars, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, have stormed to glory at the Bingtan Open of the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour, capturing the gold medal with a commanding 2–0 victory over Australia’s Oliver Merritt and Ben Hood in Sunday’s final in China. The Qatari pair secured the win in straight sets, 21–15, 21–14, showcasing their class and chemistry on the sand.

This dazzling triumph marks Qatar’s third gold medal on the Asian tour this season, following earlier victories at the Samila Open in Thailand and the Doha Open, further cementing the team’s position among the continent’s elite and reinforcing their World No. 12 ranking.

Cherif and Tijan were in a league of their own throughout the final. Despite spirited resistance from the Australian duo, the Qataris’ superior synergy, vast experience, and clinical execution made the difference. From start to finish, they dictated the pace, neutralized threats, and closed out points with authority.

Their journey to the top of the podium was nothing short of dominant. The Qatari pair swept all their matches en route to gold, starting with a flawless group stage performance. They opened their campaign with a 2–0 win (21–12, 21–9) over Kazakhstan’s Kirill Gurin and Sergey Bogatov, topping Group A with ease.

In the knockout stages, they continued their momentum with a blistering 2–0 victory (21–9, 21–11) over Japan’s Kaoru Kai and Takumi Adachi in the Round of 16. The quarterfinals saw them overpower Thailand’s national team 2–0 (21–15, 21–13), and they dispatched China’s Wang Hong and Zhong Dehong 2–0 (21–8, 21–16) in a ruthless semifinal display.

Cherif and Tijan—three-time Asian champions—have once again proven why they are among the very best in the world. With their eyes now set on even greater international success, this latest golden performance adds another sparkling chapter to Qatar’s rising beach volleyball legacy.
