Ali Sayed shines in Mare Nostrum 2025 series

Barcelona: Qatar’s swimming star Ali Sayed has added another milestone to his name after breaking the national record in the Men’s 50m Butterfly (long course) during the Barcelona leg of the Mare Nostrum 2025 series. Sayed clocked 24.45 seconds, surpassing the previous national best of 24.62 seconds, held by Mohammed Mahmoud.

This performance comes on the heels of another historic feat. At the Mare Nostrum Monaco 2025, Ali became the first-ever Qatari swimmer to qualify for the World Aquatics Championships, scheduled to take place in Singapore later this year. He met the qualification standard in the 100m freestyle, finishing in 49.48 seconds.

These back-to-back achievements not only highlight Sayed’s rising international stature but also reflect the progress of Qatari swimming, backed by strategic planning and sustained support from national sports institutions.
