Amman: Team Qatar have secured both semifinal spots at the 2nd Round of the West Asian Beach Volleyball Tour , currently taking place in Jordan, setting up an all-Qatari clash that guarantees a place in the final for one of the national pairs.
Qatar’s first team, represented by Saif Al-Majid and Mahmoud Essam, booked their spot in the semifinals with a straight-sets win over Saudi Arabia’s Diaa Al-Khawaher and Hassan Al-Kaabi, 21-12, 21-18. The duo had previously topped their group after notching two victories: a 2-0 win over Kuwait’s Jassem Al-Sabbagh and Abdulwahab Amir, and a 2-1 triumph against Lebanon’s Paul Bou Akel and Charbel Khoury.
Maintaining their form in the quarterfinals, Saif and Mahmoud once again defeated the Saudi pair with a commanding performance, confirming their place in the final four.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s second team, Mehdi Samoud and Mohammed Ehab, also impressed throughout the tournament. They opened with a 2-0 win over Kuwait’s Nawaf Al-Rashidi and Ibrahim Ahmed, then narrowly lost a tight group stage match to the Saudi team (1-2). Despite the setback, they advanced to the quarterfinals, where they claimed a crucial 2-0 win over the Lebanese duo of Bou Akel and Khoury, with scores of 21-15 and 21-19.
As a result, the two Qatari pairs will now face off in an all-Qatar semifinal, ensuring the national flag will be represented in the final of the regional championship.
These results once again underscore Qatar’s rising status in regional beach volleyball and reflect the strong preparation and competitive edge of its athletes heading into the decisive stages of the tournament.
