Shymkent, Kazakhstan - Qatari shooters continued their positive streak at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship currently being held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, winning three medals Monday: a silver and two bronze in the trap and rifle competitions.
In the women's trap competition, national team shooter Raya Bassel won the silver medal after finishing second in the final round following a strong competition with shooters from India, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Iran.
Qatari shooters also won the bronze medal in the men's trap team competition, with Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Shareb, and Angelo Scalzone scoring a total of 340 shots over the five rounds.
The second bronze medal was won by national team shooter Amal Mahmoud in the mixed 20+20 rifle shooting competition.
Qatari shooters won three bronze medals in the skeet competition at last week's championship.
Shooter Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq won the bronze medal in the men's individual skeet category, while Mohammed Al Kuwari, Rashid Saleh Al Athba, and Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq won the bronze medal in the men's team skeet.
The third medal came in the mixed skeet competition, won by Ali Al Ishaq and Sarah Ghulam.
The Qatari team mission for trap, rifle, and pistol is headed by Ahmed Al Kuwari and includes Nawal Al Sulaiti, team manager, and approximately 32 shooters.
The championship is being held in four competitions: pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap.
The Asian Championship continues tomorrow, Tuesday, with the women's 30m rifle 3 positions final.
President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr expressed his happiness with the impressive results achieved by the Qatari national team shooters in the 16th Asian Shooting Championship.
In remarks to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), he said that this achievement was made possible thanks to the support of the wise leadership for the sports movement in the country.
He said that these medals were the culmination of intensive preparations and tireless work, with Qatari shooters bringing their medal tally to six, achieving a qualitative leap and a shining mark in the history of Qatari and Asian shooting.
He added, "These achievements are the result of the insightful vision and unlimited support of the country's wise leadership, which has given sports and youth utmost care and attention."
He noted that these six medals are not just numbers, but rather testament to the efforts of Qatari shooters and their determination to achieve success, as well as to the competence of the technical and administrative staff, who have worked diligently to position Qatar in a leading position on the Asian and global shooting map.
Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr emphasized that these impressive results will not be the end of the road, but rather a stronger and greater incentive to continue the journey and raise the bar for ambitions in preparation for upcoming international competitions, most notably the World Championships, which Doha will host next December. This will help us raise Qatar's flag high in all forums, he added.
At the end of his remarks, Dr. Al Nasr thanked all the shooters and the technical and administrative staff, wishing Qatar's shooters continued success in the remaining Asian Championships.
