Qatar Shines with Seven Medals at Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan

Shymkent, Kazakhstan – Team Qatar closed its campaign at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship with an impressive haul of seven medals, capped by a silver in the men’s double trap event.

The Qatari trio of Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Sharib, and Rashid Al Athba delivered a strong performance to secure the silver medal after a tough contest against shooters from Kazakhstan, India, and Uzbekistan. The team hit 266 targets across four rounds, with Al Rumaihi also ranking sixth individually. Kazakhstan claimed the gold, while India settled for bronze.

This latest success lifted Qatar’s overall tally to seven medals: Silver in women’s trap – Ray Bassil, Bronze in men’s team trap – Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Sharib, and Angelo Scalzoni, Bronze in mixed moving target rifle (20+20) , Amal Mahmoud Bronze in men’s individual skeet , Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq, Bronze in men’s team skeet – Mohammed Al Kuwari, Rashid Saleh Al Athba, and Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq, Bronze in mixed skeet – Ali Al Ishaq and Sarah Ghulam, Silver in men’s double trap – Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Sharib, and Rashid Al Athba.

The Qatari delegation, led by Ahmed Al Kuwari, included team manager Nawal Al Sulaiti and 32 male and female shooters. The championship featured four disciplines: pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap.

Expressing his pride in the achievement, Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, praised the shooters’ determination and focus, which enabled them to excel against Asia’s top competitors. He credited the success to the support of Qatar’s wise leadership and the Qatar Olympic Committee, along with the strategic planning and tireless efforts of the Association.

“This milestone is not the end but the beginning of greater ambitions,” he said, promising continued work to further develop the sport and raise Qatar’s profile on the global stage.

The Qatari delegation competing in the double trap event is set to return to Doha on Sunday.
