DOHA – Qatari equestrians Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al-Thani and Bassem Mohammed are set to take part in the 13th round of the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) and Global Champions League (GCL), which kicks off this Friday and continues through Sunday in Vienna, Austria.
The prestigious international show jumping series brings together the world’s top riders. After 12 rounds, Belgian rider Gilles Thomas leads the LGCT standings with 261 points, followed by Germany’s Christian Kukuk with 187 points, Denmark’s Andreas Schou with 173 points, France’s Simon Delestre with 164 points, and the Netherlands’ Maikel van der Vleuten with 158 points.
This round will feature several world-renowned competitors, including British rider Scott Brash, who claimed two Grand Prix victories this season in Shanghai and St. Tropez. Dutch rider Harrie Smolders, also a two-time Grand Prix winner this year, will compete alongside German veteran Marcus Ehning and Austrian star Max Kuhner.
The LGCT and GCL span 17 rounds across major cities worldwide, having started in Doha and continued through Mexico City, Shanghai, Madrid, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Paris, Monaco, London, Valkenswaard, and New York. Following Vienna, the tour will move on to Rome, Rabat, and Riyadh, culminating in the Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs in the Czech capital.
