Doha: The main draw of the inaugural FIP Asia Padel Cup Qatar 2025 will begin tomorrow, Monday, at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, with 17 nations competing in the men’s category and 14 in the women’s. The tournament runs until October 24, marking the first-ever continental edition of the event organized by the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel, and Badminton Federation.
The three-day qualifying stage concluded today, Sunday, paving the way for the start of the decisive main rounds.
Based on its international ranking, Team Qatar received direct qualification to the main draw without taking part in the qualifiers. The Qatari men’s team will open its campaign tomorrow against Kuwait in Group B, while Australia will face Pakistan in the same group.
The official draw, held this evening, placed eight teams into two groups: Group A includes the UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iran, while Group B features Qatar, Kuwait, Australia, and Pakistan. In the women’s competition, Iran will meet the UAE, and Saudi Arabia will face Japan in Group A, while Australia takes on Indonesia, and the Philippines meets Thailand in Group B.
The final day of the men’s qualifiers saw Kuwait defeat Indonesia 2–1 in Group A, Pakistan beat Thailand 3–0 in Group B, Jordan overcome South Korea 3–0 in Group C, and Japan triumph over the Philippines 3–0 in Group D. In the women’s qualifiers, Thailand beat Lebanon 2–1 in Group A, Kuwait defeated Bahrain 3–0 in Group B, the UAE overcame Saudi Arabia 2–1 in Group C, and China blanked Pakistan 3–0 in Group D.
Ahmed Butti, Public Relations Manager at the Qatar Padel Federation, praised the tournament’s impressive organization, describing it as a “historic success for the first Asian edition.” He commended the high technical level displayed by the participating teams and highlighted the rapid growth of padel across Asia and the Arab world.
Butti emphasized that the Federation was eager to host the inaugural edition of the Asian Championship, leveraging Qatar’s world-class facilities and the Khalifa International Complex’s readiness, where dedicated men’s and women’s padel courts were specifically prepared for the event.
He also invited fans to attend the matches and enjoy the high-level competition, noting that the organizing committee has ensured flawless preparation and a professional environment that allows athletes to deliver their best performances throughout the championship.
