Doha, Qatar — Hosts Qatar powered into the semi-finals of the FIP Asia Padel Cup after securing two strong victories over Kuwait, as all four seeded teams in the men’s Final 8 delivered impressive performances at the Khalifa Tennis and Squash International Complex on Monday.
In Group A, Iran dominated Jordan with a clean sweep, winning all three matches without dropping a set. The United Arab Emirates followed suit with a 2–1 triumph over Lebanon, who managed to claim the final rubber of the tie.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Australia opened their campaign with three commanding wins — including a straight-sets victory from the duo of Pat Rafter and Vuk Velickovic — while Qatar maintained their momentum to defeat Kuwait and secure their spot in the next round.
In the women’s competition, Japan and Iran (Group A) both began their quarter-final journeys in style, earning perfect 3–0 victories over Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, respectively. In Group B, Indonesia eased past Australia 3–0, while Thailand staged an impressive comeback to overcome the Philippines after losing the opening match.
The second round of fixtures will continue Tuesday, with teams vying for a place in the semi-finals of the prestigious continental event.
