Nishan Ramadan Shooting Championship Set to Get Underway

Doha: The Nishan Ramadan Shooting Championship, organized by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, will begin tomorrow (Friday) at the Lusail Shooting Complex under the slogan “Ramadan Challenge.” The tournament will run until March 8 and is expected to witness wide participation from amateur shooters in the junior boys and girls, men’s and women’s categories, as well as seniors aged 60 and above. Professional shooters (national team members) will also compete.

The championship features competitions in air rifle and air pistol, archery, and shotgun events.

|Training sessions for the Nishan Championship began on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan and will continue throughout the tournament, with strong participation from male and female shooters across all categories.

Competition opens on Friday with the 10m air pistol and 10m air rifle events for juniors. On Saturday, the 10m air pistol competition for amateurs will be held over two days, followed by the 10m air rifle competition for amateurs starting next Monday, also over two days. The 10m archery event for amateurs will take place next Wednesday for two days. Meanwhile, the amateur shotgun competition and the 50m rifle event will be staged on Friday and Saturday (16 and 17 Ramadan).

For professional shooters (national team members), 50m and 60m archery training sessions will be held on Friday, followed by qualification rounds on 11 Ramadan and the final on 12 Ramadan. The skeet and trap competitions will then begin on 13 Ramadan and continue for three days, with the finals scheduled for 16 Ramadan.

The seniors’ (60+) 10m air rifle competition will be held on 13 Ramadan. The championship will conclude on 19 Ramadan with the awarding ceremony for winners across all categories.

The organizing committee has allocated total prize money of QR 500,000. The first-place winners in the amateur men’s and women’s categories will receive QR 60,000, second place will earn QR 20,000, and third place QR 10,000. Competitors finishing from fourth to sixth place will receive QR 5,000 each. In the seniors’ category, first place will be awarded QR 7,000, second place QR 5,000, and third place QR 3,000.

Mr. Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association and Championship Director, confirmed that all preparations have been completed for the launch of the Nishan Ramadan Shooting Championship. He noted that training sessions, which began at the start of Ramadan, witnessed strong participation from junior and senior shooters (men and women).

Al Sulaiti stated that significant prize money totaling QR 500,000 has been allocated, exceeding that of previous editions, which will further enhance competition and motivate participants to deliver their best performances.

He added that the championship’s annual objective is to discover young Qatari talents in shooting and refine their skills to gain experience, in line with the federation’s strategy to support national teams with promising shooters capable of representing Qatar in continental and international competitions.

The Championship Director also expressed confidence that this year’s edition will feature strong technical levels, given the intensive preparations of participants and the organizing committee’s commitment to ensuring the event is delivered at the highest technical and organizational standards. He emphasized that the Nishan Ramadan Championship is distinguished each year by its unique atmosphere, combining the spirit of the holy month with fair sporting competition, making it one of the largest and most prominent community shooting events.
