Doha (QNA) – Team Qatar will take on India tomorrow (Friday) at Lusail Hall in their opening game of the second window of Group D in the Asian qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027.
The Qatari national team enters the match with three points, collected from an 86–83 away victory over Lebanon and a narrow 75–74 home defeat to the same opponent.
Qatar will look to build on their recent win over Lebanon and continue their positive momentum, while India aim to keep their qualification hopes alive by competing for one of the available spots.
Saudi Arabia currently lead Group D with four points, followed by Qatar and Lebanon with three points each, while India sit fourth with two points.
The Asian and Oceania qualifiers feature 16 teams divided into four groups. Group A includes Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Guam. Group B features Japan, China, South Korea, and Chinese Taipei. Group C comprises Iran, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq. Group D includes Qatar, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and India.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round, where the qualified teams will be divided into two new groups. From each group, three teams will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, in addition to the best fourth-placed team from the two groups.
The qualifiers are being held across six international windows over more than a year and a half, beginning in November 2025 and continuing through March 2027.
