DOHA - The FEI Regional Group VII Finals for Juniors, Cadets, and Young Riders concluded impressively at the Longines Arena of Al Shaqab on Saturday.
The competitions on the final day of the four-day championships began with the local Junior class at a height of 120cm. Qatari rider Khalid Nasser Al Khater secured first place clocking 35.12 seconds on Dancing Queen d’Ick. His compatriot, Mohammed Faisal Al Marri, finished second in 37.95 seconds on Duke G, while fellow Qatari Ahmed Ali Al Jaber came in third with a time of 36.61 seconds on Riane TB.The winners were crowned by Zaid Abu Zaid, President of the Syrian Arab Equestrian Federation.
In the Junior Final of the Regional Group VII Individual category, Emirati rider Hassan Majid Al Nuaimi won the title with a time of 49.64 seconds on Grazie. His compatriot, Khalid Ahmed Al Muhairi, came in second with a time of 50.7 seconds on Feline Peguignon, while Qatari rider Mohammed Hamza Al Kuwari finished third with a time of 53.94 seconds on Galatee de La Trigale.
The winners were crowned by Mr. Sultan Mohammed Al Yahyaei, President of Regional Group VII of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), and Sheikh Talal bin Khalid Al Thani, the tournament director.
In the Junior Final Individual category, Emirati rider Saleh Mufrej Al Karbi won the title with a time of 44.62 seconds on Espresso. His compatriot, Mohammed Saeed Al Ghurair, came in second with a time of 46.62 seconds on Hazel de Luxe, and Saudi rider Abdulhadi Al Qahtani finished third with a time of 47.3 seconds on We’ll See. The winners of the event were crowned by His Excellency Sultan Mohammed Al Yahyai, President of FEI Regional Group VII, and Khalid Abdullah Al Hitmi, Executive Vice President of Al Shaqab.
In the Junior Individual Final, Kuwaiti rider Hussein Al Kharafi took first place with a time of 65.87 seconds on Gk C’Est Un Reve, followed by Qatari rider Ibrahim Yousef Al Mahmoud in second place with a time of 52.34 seconds on Perle Van Dorperheide, and Qatari rider Abdullah Khalid Al Jalandani in third place with a time of 55.46 seconds on Cavallina 13. The winners were crowned by His Excellency Sultan Mohammed Al Yahyai, President of FEI Regional Group VII, and Sheikh Talal bin Khalid Al Thani, Tournament Director.
Commenting on the conclusion of the Group VII competitions, Mr. Sultan Mohammed Al Yahyai, stated: “Over the course of four days at the Longines Arena in Al Shaqab, we witnessed outstanding levels of competition from riders in the junior, youth, and young adult categories. They demonstrated exceptional readiness and a clear ability to compete with confidence and skill. Several riders reached the podium multiple times, reflecting their improved performance and consistent level of play.”
He added: “This gathering is not only about competition but also about creating an interactive environment that brings together riders from different countries, allowing them to exchange and gain experience towards developing their technical skills.”
Sheikh Talal bin Khalid Al Thani, the Tournament Director, affirmed that the conclusion of the FEI Regional Group VII competitions represents a significant milestone in the development of equestrian sports in the region. He noted that Doha’s hosting of the tournament for the second consecutive year reflects the high level of confidence in Qatar’s organizational capabilities and infrastructure, as well as the country’s accumulated experience in managing major sporting events.
“This edition witnessed a qualitative leap by dedicating a class to riders under 25 years of age. This strategic step aims to give them the opportunity to compete in a class characterized by high-level technical aspects, thus ensuring the continued development of riders across all age groups,” he said.
The event featured over 100 riders representing countries in the region., competing for a total prize purse of €318,000.
