Qatar Secures Gold and Silver on Opening Day of Arab U20 Athletics Championships in Tunis

Tunis, April 26 (QNA) – Team Qatar made an impressive start to its campaign at the Arab U20 Athletics Championships in Tunis, clinching one gold and one silver medal on the opening day of the prestigious regional event, which runs until April 30 and features more than 320 athletes representing 15 Arab nations.

Mubarak Saeed delivered a standout performance to capture the gold medal in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 8:15.43 and registering his season’s best time in a remarkable display of endurance and determination.

Qatar’s second podium finish came through Saleh Mahmoud, who claimed the silver medal in the shot put event after a strong and competitive performance that further highlighted the team’s promising start to the championships.

Adding to Qatar’s medal prospects, Yousef Abdulaziz successfully qualified for the final of the 400 meters, raising hopes of another podium finish when he competes in Monday’s decisive race.

Qatar is participating in the championships with a talented squad of emerging athletes competing across a wide range of track and field disciplines, including the 400m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x400m relay, pole vault, discus throw, and hammer throw.

Through its participation, the Qatar Athletics Federation aims to further strengthen its distinguished presence on the Arab athletics stage, while also pursuing qualification standards for the upcoming World Athletics Championships set to be held in the United States later this summer.
