Sanya, China – Team Qatar capped off a successful participation at the Asian Beach Games – Sanya 2026 with a distinguished medal tally in team sports, securing two gold medals and one silver in a campaign defined by excellence and consistency.
The golden highlights came through beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, who defeated Iran 2-0 in the final to secure the title after an unbeaten run, and the men’s 3x3 basketball team, which dominated Thailand 21-10 in the final to claim top honours.
Both teams displayed exceptional form throughout the tournament, advancing with perfect group-stage records and overcoming strong opposition in the knockout rounds to reach the podium.
Qatar’s beach handball team added a silver medal after a hard-fought final against Iran, narrowly losing 2-1 in a match decided in the final set. Their journey to the final included a flawless group stage and a confident semi-final win over Bahrain, reaffirming their status as consistent contenders.
The Qatari delegation, comprising 34 athletes across seven sports, showcased the nation’s expanding footprint in beach sports at the continental level.
Chef de Mission, Mohammed Al-Misnad described the participation as a success on all fronts, highlighting both the competitive achievements and the smooth administrative execution. He noted that the results reflect sustained preparation and teamwork across all levels.
Al-Misnad concluded by praising the Chinese organizers for their outstanding hospitality and organization, emphasizing that the event met the highest international standards and provided a competitive environment.
