Doha: Team Qatar table tennis players won two medals — one gold and one bronze — in the mixed doubles category on the penultimate day of the table tennis competitions at the 4th GCC Games currently taking place in Doha and continuing until May 22.
The Qatari duo Mohammed Abdulwahab and Aya Mohammed secured the gold medal after defeating the UAE pair Ali Al Hawai and Noura Al Mazmi 3-0 in the final.
Meanwhile, Team Qatar players Abdullah Abdulwahab and Mariam Ali claimed the bronze medal after defeating Bahrain’s Rashid Khalid Sanad and Rayan Emad 3-0 in the third-place playoff match.
The table tennis competitions continue today with the third-place matches in the men’s singles, women’s singles, and men’s doubles categories, followed by the men’s singles final featuring an all-Saudi clash, the women’s singles final between Qatar’s Aya Mohammed and Mariam Ali, and the men’s doubles final between Qatar’s Mohammed Abdulwahab and Abdullah Abdulwahab against Saudi Arabia’s Ali Al Khudrawi and Abdulaziz Boushalibi, before the curtain falls on the table tennis competitions with the medal ceremonies across all categories.
Meanwhile, Team Qatar bowling players won four medals yesterday — one gold, two silver, and one bronze — in the all-events standings and team competitions on the penultimate day of the bowling events at the 4th GCC Games.
In the all-events standings, Team Qatar bowlers dominated the top three positions ahead of competitors from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and Kuwait. Badr Khalid Al Sada won the gold medal after topping the standings with a total of 5,009 points accumulated across the singles, doubles, trio, and team events. Jassim Al Marikhi secured silver with 4,995 points, while Talal Al Marri claimed bronze with 4,896 points.
The medal ceremony for the Qatari players was attended by Salman Abdullah Abdul Ghani, Honorary President of the Qatar Bowling Federation, and Salem Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Board Member of the Qatar Bowling Federation.
In the team event, Team Qatar — comprising Talal Al Marri, Abdulrahman Al Dosari, Badr Al Sada, Jassim Al Marikhi, Abdullah Al Dosari, and Ahmed Al Darwish — secured silver after collecting 5,719 points. Saudi Arabia claimed gold with 5,735 points, while the UAE won bronze with 5,650 points.
The winners in the team event were crowned by Salah Al Jaidi, Vice President of the UAE Bowling Federation, and Saeed Al Hajri, Board Member of the Qatar Bowling Federation.
In billiards and snooker, Team Qatar player Ali Al Obaidli won the silver medal in the 6-red snooker competition after losing 3-4 to Kuwait’s Ammar Taqi in a highly competitive final that was decided in the final frame.
Al Obaidli had reached the final after an impressive campaign, beginning with topping Group A following consecutive victories over Kuwait’s Ammar Taqi 4-3 and Oman’s Sami Al Hamrashdi 4-1.
In the quarter-finals, the Qatari player continued his strong run with a 4-0 victory over Bahrain’s Hisham Al Saqr before defeating another Bahraini player, Habib Sabah, 4-2 in the semi-finals.
Qatar’s Ahmed Saif also competed in the same event and topped Group C after defeating Bahrain’s Hisham Al Saqr 4-2 before losing 3-4 to Saudi Arabia’s Ayman Al Omari.
However, Saif’s campaign ended in the quarter-finals after another close 3-4 defeat to Kuwait’s Ammar Taqi.
The 6-red snooker competition featured 12 players representing Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, and Oman, with two players from each country divided into four groups.
Team Qatar is represented in the billiards and snooker competitions by Ali Al Obaidli, Muhanna Al Obaidli, Mansour Al Obaidli, Ahmed Saif, Bashar Hussein, Mishal Turki Al Ali, and Abdul Latif Al Fawal.
In handball, Team Qatar defeated Kuwait 34-19 yesterday at Duhail Sports Hall to secure its second consecutive victory following its opening win over the UAE 28-20, lifting its tally to four points at the top of the standings.
Qatar is scheduled to face Bahrain next Tuesday in its third match of the tournament.
In another match played yesterday, Saudi Arabia defeated the UAE 34-21."
All participating handball teams will enjoy a rest day today before the competition resumes tomorrow, Monday, with Bahrain facing Saudi Arabia and Kuwait taking on the UAE.
It is worth noting that Team Qatar handball won the gold medal at the third GCC Games held in Kuwait in 2022.
Meanwhile, Team Qatar men’s volleyball team defeated the UAE 3-0 yesterday in its opening match at the GCC Games Doha 2026.
The Qatari team delivered a strong performance and dominated most stages of the match to secure victory with set scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-13 at Aspire Sports Hall.
Team Qatar is scheduled to face Oman today, Sunday, in the second round of the competition, while the UAE will take on Bahrain.
In the opening round, Bahrain defeated Oman 3-0 with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-18.
