Doha: Spain’s Julen Lopetegui, head coach of the Qatar national football team, has announced a 28-player squad for next Thursday’s international friendly against Ireland in Dublin as part of the team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
The squad traveling to Ireland includes: Meshaal Barsham, Mahmoud Abunada, Salah Zakaria, Shehab Al Laithi, Ahmed Al Janahi, Almoez Ali, Akram Afif, Edmilson Junior, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Alaa, Tahseen Mohammed, Pedro Miguel, Boualem Khoukhi, Ayoub Al Alawi, Al Hashmi Al Hussein, Assim Madibo, Sultan Al Brake, Ryan Al Ali, Hassan Al Haydos, Jassem Jaber, Mohammed Muntari, Lucas Mendes, Karim Boudiaf, Issa Laith, Abdulaziz Hatem, Yousef Abdurisag, Homam Al Amin, and Mohammed Muntari.
The squad also saw the exclusion of seven players: Sebastian Soria, Tarek Salman, Fahad Younis, Bassam Al Rawi, Mohammed Waad, Mubarak Shanan, and Niall Mason, following the technical evaluation carried out by the coaching staff during the recent period.
Qatar are preparing for their second FIFA World Cup appearance after hosting the previous edition in 2022. Team Qatar will compete in Group B at the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada, Switzerland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
