AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan -  Qatar’s national 3x3 basketball team booked its place in the quarter-finals of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after securing a third consecutive victory, defeating Bahrain 21–15 on Wednesday.Team Qatar will face the winner of the Mongolia-Singapore clash today in the quarter-finals as they continue their bid for a place among the medal contenders.The victory capped an impressive group-stage campaign for the Qatari side, which opened its Asian Games account with a win over Indonesia before overcoming Chinese Taipei and Bahrain to complete a perfect run of three victories.Qatar made a strong start against Bahrain, imposing its game from the outset and combining sharp attacking play with disciplined defence. The team maintained its composure throughout the contest to secure a convincing 21–15 victory.The third successive win underlined Qatar’s strong form and growing confidence in the competition, with the team now turning its attention to the knockout stage and seeking to maintain its winning momentum as it targets a place in the medal positions.

Aichi-Nagoya, Japan – Qatar’s men’s 3x3 basketball team will take on Bahrain today at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, looking to build on an impressive start to their campaign after securing victories over Indonesia and Chinese Taipei.The Qatar women’s team, meanwhile, will face Kazakhstan as they seek to bounce back from two opening defeats. They began their campaign with a 19-16 loss to Sri Lanka before suffering a 21-3 defeat against Chinese Taipei.Qatar’s women are drawn in Group A alongside China, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka in the 3x3 basketball competition at the 20th Asian Games.In shooting, Qatar remain among the leading contenders in the men’s skeet competition following the conclusion of the second day of qualification.The competition continues today with the final qualification round, followed by the men’s final, where the medals and final standings will be decided. Qatar’s shooters will be aiming to maintain their strong form and mount a determined challenge for the podium.Meanwhile, Qatar’s squash team begin their Asian Games campaign today, with Abdullah Al Tamimi facing Mongolia’s Yesun Otgonchimeg, while Salem Al Malki takes on South Korea’s Na Joo-young.The Qatari duo will be seeking strong starts to their campaigns as they look to advance through the competition and challenge for top positions.Al Tamimi arrives in Aichi-Nagoya with proven Asian Games pedigree, having claimed the men’s singles bronze medal at Hangzhou 2022.

NAGOYA: The Local Organizing Committee of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 is organizing a series of promotional days for the tournament at Bayt Qatar in Nagoya, Japan, on the sidelines of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, with the aim of introducing the upcoming tournament and highlighting Qatar’s preparations to host the global event next year.The programme features three promotional days, with the first held on 20 September, the second taking place on 23 September, and the third and final day scheduled for 29 September. The activities provide an opportunity to engage with visitors to Bayt Qatar, as well as delegations and members of the international sporting community in Nagoya, while highlighting key features of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 and the fan experience awaiting visitors during the tournament.The promotional days feature the Naismith Trophy, the FIBA Basketball World Cup trophy, giving visitors to Bayt Qatar the opportunity to see it up close and take commemorative photos, alongside a range of tournament-related interactive activities and the distribution of souvenirs to visitors.Qatar will host the FIBA Basketball World Cup from 27 August to 12 September 2027, marking the first edition of the tournament to be staged in the Middle East. A total of 32 of the world’s best national teams will compete across 92 games, all taking place in Doha.The promotional days highlight Qatar’s advanced state of readiness to host the tournament, supported by world-class sporting infrastructure, extensive organizational expertise and national capabilities developed through hosting numerous major sporting events over the past two decades.The activities also showcase the compact hosting model that will distinguish Qatar 2027, with all games taking place across four arenas: Lusail Arena, Al Janoub Arena, Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena and Al Duhail Arena. The close proximity of the venues and ease of travel between them will give fans the opportunity to attend more games and enjoy the tournament atmosphere and accompanying activities.The fan experience is a key priority in the Local Organizing Committee’s preparations, with Qatar 2027 aiming to deliver an experience that extends beyond the games inside the arenas to include a range of fan activities and entertainment, while giving visitors the opportunity to discover Qatari culture and enjoy the country’s diverse tourism experiences. 

Berlin: H.E. Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, attended today the final of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, held in Berlin, Germany.  The final brought together the United States and France, with the USA claiming a 97-79 victory to secure the world title for the fifth consecutive time and the 12th time in their history.The game was also attended by Dr. Ahmad Abdulla Al Buenain, Director General of the Local Organizing Committee of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, along with a number of officials from FIBA, continental and national federations, as well as several sports figures.H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Vice Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, had also participated in the “Women in Basketball Forum,” organized by FIBA on the sidelines of the tournament and attended by leading figures and representatives from the sports, media and business sectors.
