NAGOYA, Japan : A three-day promotional campaign organized by the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Local Organizing Committee on 20, 23 and 29 September attracted strong interest and engagement from guests at Bayt Qatar, held on the sidelines of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness of the tournament and showcase the Naismith Trophy to senior Olympic officials, leading figures in Asian sport and visitors to Bayt Qatar, as well as athletes and fans attending the Asian Games. It also sought to engage fans of Asian national teams qualifying for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, which will be held in Doha, Qatar, from 12 August to 27 September 2027.
The promotional campaign attracted hundreds of basketball enthusiasts, Asian Games fans and athletes, providing a unique experience that brought together sport, its legacy and its impact on people. It also contributed to strengthening basketball culture across Asia.
The campaign represents a significant promotional initiative connecting the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 with the Asian sporting community. It also contributes to strengthening sporting ties between Qatar and its Asian counterparts, while reinforcing the role of sport as a bridge for peace, solidarity and greater understanding between people.
At its core, the campaign builds on the global momentum surrounding the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games to promote the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 and highlight Qatar’s approach to creating a sustainable sporting legacy that extends beyond individual tournaments.
This is achieved by building on accumulated expertise, sporting infrastructure and strategic investments and turning them into sustainable assets that serve the community and support the continued development of basketball.
The fan experience is a key pillar of the Local Organizing Committee’s preparations. Qatar 2027 aims to deliver an experience that goes beyond the games and competition inside the arenas, offering fans and visitors a comprehensive experience combining sport, entertainment and culture through a range of fan activities and events, while providing opportunities to discover Qatari culture and enjoy diverse tourism experiences that reflect the richness and diversity of Qatar.
On this occasion, Dr. Ahmad Abdulla Al Buenain, Director General of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Local Organizing Committee, said: “We are leveraging the global presence surrounding this campaign to raise awareness of the tournament and attract new fans from across Asia. We look forward to Qatar 2027 delivering organizational excellence and a sporting legacy that builds on the high standards established by Qatar during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, while providing an integrated sporting and fan experience.”
He added: “Qatar’s hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup represents a historic milestone for the region, as it will become the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to host this global event. It is a great honour and a responsibility we are proud to embrace, together with our commitment to delivering a tournament that reflects Qatar’s ability to host the world’s biggest sporting events. All buildings and sporting venues are now fully ready, while our teams are finalizing their organizational, logistical and security plans, underlining our early readiness.”
He continued: “Qatar 2027 will be the first edition in the history of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in which all games are staged in a single city. Doha will offer a more convenient and seamless experience in 2027, with travel between arenas taking no more than 30 minutes, giving teams and fans greater comfort and more time to enjoy the competition and discover the wide range of sporting, cultural and tourism experiences Qatar has to offer.”
For his part, Sheikh Tamim bin Fahad Al Thani, Deputy Director General of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Local Organizing Committee, said that the next phase will focus on strengthening the tournament’s profile and engaging with basketball fans around the world.
He said: “As we move closer to the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, we are entering an important phase in which we are working to strengthen our engagement with fans and increase their interaction with the tournament. Our presence in Nagoya, amid this major Asian sporting gathering, gives us the opportunity to engage directly with fans from different countries, introduce them to what awaits them in Qatar next year, and invite them to be part of this global experience.”
He added: “Our ambition goes beyond delivering a successful tournament inside the arenas. We want Qatar 2027 to serve as a milestone that contributes to strengthening the presence of basketball and expanding the base of those who play and follow the game, particularly among younger generations. By hosting the world’s best national teams, we aim to build a lasting legacy for basketball, ensuring that the tournament’s impact continues in Qatar and across the region long after the competition concludes.”
