Spain Complete Historic Double at FIP World Cup Qatar 2026

Doha : Spain completed a memorable double at the FIP World Cup Qatar 2026 on Saturday, claiming both the men's and women's titles after defeating arch-rivals Argentina in two thrilling finals at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

The Spanish men's team reclaimed the world crown with a 2-1 victory over defending champions Argentina, avenging their defeat in the 2024 final in Doha, while the women's team extended their remarkable dominance by securing a seventh consecutive world title with a 2-0 triumph over the same opponents.

In the men's final, Spain made a strong comeback in the opening encounter as Juan Lebron and World Cup debutant Aimar Goñi recovered from a set down to defeat Argentina's Martin Di Nenno and Leandro Augsburger 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

The Argentine pair took the opening set and appeared to be in control after establishing a 4-2 lead in the second. However, Lebron and Goñi fought back to level the contest before taking the second set 7-5.

The Spanish duo carried their momentum into the deciding set, securing an early break and eventually sealing a crucial victory to give Spain a 1-0 lead.

Argentina responded in the second match through Agustin Tapia and Federico Chingotto, who delivered a commanding performance to defeat Paquito Navarro and Jon Sanz 6-1, 6-2 in just 55 minutes, levelling the final at 1-1.

With the world title at stake, Arturo Coello and Coki Nieto rose to the occasion in the decisive encounter against Argentina's Tino Libaak and Gonzalo Alfonso.

The Spanish pair produced an impressive display to secure a 6-3, 6-2 victory, sparking celebrations among their teammates and supporters as Spain regained the men's world title.

The victory marked a significant turnaround for Spain, who had lost the men's final to Argentina by the same 2-1 scoreline at the previous edition in Doha two years earlier.

Meanwhile, Spain's women's team continued their extraordinary run of success, defeating Argentina 2-0 to claim their seventh consecutive world title.

Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero gave Spain the perfect start with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Argentina's Martina Fassio and Aranzazu Osoro.

Ustero, making her first World Cup appearance, delivered an impressive performance alongside Sanchez, helping Spain take the opening point despite determined resistance from the Argentine pair.

The second encounter proved to be a much closer contest as Gemma Triay and Paula Josemaria faced Argentina's Claudia Jensen and Delfi Brea.

The Spanish duo claimed the opening set 6-2, but the Argentinians fought back to win the second on a tie-break, forcing a deciding set.

After a closely contested battle lasting two hours and 38 minutes, Triay and Josemaria eventually prevailed 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 to secure the title for Spain.

The result extended Spain's remarkable winning streak in the women's competition and denied Argentina an opportunity to end their rivals' dominance.

The two finals brought an exciting conclusion to the FIP World Cup Qatar 2026, which featured 32 national teams competing in the men's and women's categories.

With Spain claiming both titles, the tournament concluded another successful edition in Doha, further reinforcing Qatar's position as a leading destination for major international padel events.
