Qatar Olympic Committee Empowers Leadership in Cybersecurity and Data Protection

DOHA  – As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance digital resilience and foster a secure organizational environment, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), through its Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department, hosted a specialized training workshop on Thursday titled: “Cybersecurity for Leaders: Data Protection and Compliance with International Standards.”Held at Lusail Hall at the QOC headquarters, the workshop brought together sector directors and directors of departments and their Assistants  for a focused session designed to elevate leadership awareness and capabilities in managing cybersecurity challenges and protecting sensitive information in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.Led by cybersecurity expert Eng. Mahmoud Al-Dabbagh, the session addressed a wide range of essential topics, including: Email security and phishing detection techniques Organizational policies for device and data protection Mobile security and secure browsing practices Safeguarding personal data privacy in accordance with international standards Responsible and secure use of AI technologies.The workshop was highly interactive, with participants engaging in in-depth discussions, sharing real-world scenarios, and exploring practical solutions. This dynamic exchange enriched the learning experience and reinforced the applicability of the knowledge shared.Mr. Hamad Mohammed Salem Al-Marri, Assistant Director of the Information Systems Department at QOC, emphasized that the workshop is part of a broader, integrated training strategy aimed at building staff capabilities and strengthening the Committee’s overall information security infrastructure. He noted that the high level of engagement from participants reflects a growing institutional awareness of the importance of cybersecurity in protecting organizational data and ensuring operational continuity.This initiative is one of many ongoing training programs conducted by the Qatar Olympic Committee to upskill its workforce and ensure a secure, future-ready digital environment aligned with the highest international standards of data protection, risk management, and operational excellence.

Team Qatar claims 11 Medals at Arab Table Tennis Championship

CASABLANCA – Team Qatar continued to impress at the Arab Table Tennis Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, raising their total medal count to 11 after a successful run on the second-to-last day of the tournament.The Qatari players added six medals in doubles events two gold and four silver to the five medals they had already won in team competitions earlier this week (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze).In the Under-11 boys’ doubles, the young duo Rabia Al Kuwari and Mubarak Al Mansouri dominated the final with a clean 3–0 win over Saudi Arabia’s Waleed Al Harbi and Rayan Al Munjoumi. The pair had already captured team gold, making it a double celebration.Another gold came from the Under-17 category, where Sultan Al Kuwari and Ahmed Eid overcame the UAE’s Ali Al Huwai and Hamad Al Hashimi with a solid 3–1 victory.Qatar’s silver medals came in tightly contested finals: in  women’s doubles, Aya Mohammed and Maryam Ali fought hard but narrowly lost 2–3 to Jordan’s Tima Abu Yamen and Rinad Al Hasani.In men’s doubles, brothers Mohammed and Abdullah Abdulwahab fell 1–3 to Saudi Arabia’s Ali Al Khudrawi and Abdulaziz Bushlaibi. In the Under-19 boys’ doubles, Rawad Al Nasser and Youssef bin Abdullah settled for silver after losing to a strong Moroccan team.In mixed doubles, Aya Mohammed teamed up with Mohammed Abdulwahab but lost to Jordan’s sibling pair, Zaid and Tima Abu Yamen, in the final. Officials from across the Arab world attended the medal ceremonies, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship and regional unity.With three golds, four silvers, and four other medals, Qatar’s athletes have made a strong mark in this year’s championship. As the tournament wraps up tomorrow with the individual finals, Team Qatar is aiming to end their campaign on an even higher note.

Qatar down Romania to end World Championship with first-ever win

Philippines -  Qatar finished their 2025 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship campaign on a high note, earning their first-ever win in the tournament by beating Romania 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22) on Wednesday in Quezon City, Philippines.Although both teams were already out of contention for the Round of 16, they were determined to make the most of their final match. For Qatar, it was a historic milestone.Romania, playing in their first World Championship since 1982, had the match’s top scorer, Cristian-Daniel Chitigoi, who tallied 16 points. Despite matching Qatar in kills (50) and blocks (9), Romania fell short due to more errors and fewer aces.Later in the day, Poland claimed first place in Pool B with a strong 3-1 win over the Netherlands in a closely contested match between two undefeated teams. The victory left Poland with a perfect 3-0 record, while the Dutch finished second with a 2-1 record. Both teams advanced to the finals.On Saturday, Poland will face Canada, while the Netherlands will go up against Turkiye in the knockout stage.

Team Qatar Wrestlers aim for Global Glory at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb

Zagreb , Croatia – Team Qatar’s Greco-Roman wrestlers step onto the mat this Thursday to begin their campaign at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships, hosted in the Croatian capital Zagreb from September 13 to 22. The tournament brings together over 900 athletes from 65 countries across the globe.Qatari star Shaheen Mohamed (82kg) will open the action with a high-stakes clash against his American counterpart, a contest eagerly anticipated by wrestling fans. His teammate Saoud Al-Mufqai will also launch his campaign in the 77kg category, facing a tough challenge against a formidable Turkish opponent.The journey continues on Thursday, September 19, when Rafeeq Al-Natsha takes on Poland’s contender in the 72kg class. Qatar’s participation will conclude on Friday, September 20, with Aref Mohammadi battling India’s representative in the 63kg category, in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.Speaking ahead of the competition, Mr. Abdullah Hamad Al-Musaifri, Assistant Secretary General of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation and Head of the Qatari delegation in Zagreb, said: “We are aiming for a strong and positive participation at this world stage, which brings together the finest wrestlers on the planet. Team Qatar continues Winning Run at Gulf Padel Championship

DOHA - The Qatar Men's Padel Team continued their impressive run at the Gulf Padel Championship, securing their third straight win in front of a home crowd with a hard-fought 2–1 triumph over Kuwait on Wednesday evening in Doha.The evening opened with a stellar performance from Qatari duo Rashid Nawaf and Meshari Nawaf, who made quick work of Kuwait’s Hussein Shmais and Abdulrahman Al-Awadi. With precision and power, the Nawaf pair cruised through in straight sets, 6–2, 6–3, giving Qatar an early lead.However, Kuwait was not ready to back down. In a fiercely contested second match, Fouad Behbehani and Abdulaziz Reda mounted a strong comeback against Qatar’s Mohammed Al Khenji and Khalid Saadon. After dropping the first set, the Kuwaiti pair rallied to claim the next two, 4–6, 6–2, 6–3, evening the tie at one match apiece.With the pressure mounting, the decisive third match saw Qatar’s Mohammed Saadon and Hassan Wali rise to the occasion in dominant fashion. They overpowered Kuwait’s Mohammed Abdullah and Hammoud Al Junaidel in a clinical 6–1, 6–2 display, sealing the overall victory and igniting celebrations among the home supporters.Following the match, Mohammed Al Roumi, head of the Kuwaiti delegation, lauded the tournament’s quality and competitive spirit. “This championship has been one of the finest in the region—both in organization and atmosphere. Team Qatar to take on Romania in FIVB World Championship

DOHA  – The Qatar men's national volleyball team is set to face Romania on Wednesday in their third and final group stage match at the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, currently underway in the Philippines until September 28. The tournament features 23 national teams from around the world.Qatar heads into the match looking to deliver a strong performance and rebound from back-to-back defeats a  3-1 loss to the Netherlands and a 3-0 loss to defending champions Poland.This is Qatar’s second appearance at the World Championship, following their debut in the 2022 edition co-hosted by Poland and Slovenia.Drawn into Group B considered one of the most competitive groups Qatar is competing alongside world No. 1 Poland, the Netherlands, and Romania.The tournament follows a group-stage format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage. The Round of 16 will take place from September 20 to 23, followed by the quarterfinals on September 24 and 25. Semifinals are scheduled for September 27, with the final and bronze medal matches on September 28.
