Aichi–Nagoya - Qatar’s men’s beach volleyball teams will begin their Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Games campaigns today, aiming to build on their previous achievements and retain the gold medal won at the last edition in Hangzhou, China.

Qatar 1, comprising Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, will open their Group A campaign against the Philippines. The group also includes Oman.

The Qatari pair will be aiming for a strong start that provides an important morale boost, strengthens their prospects of remaining in contention and helps them advance to the knockout stages.

The participation of Younousse and Tijan carries particular significance as they are the defending Asian Games champions.

Qatar 2, represented by Mousa Al-Khair and Mohammed Ehab, will also begin their campaign today when they face South Korea in Group D, which also features Thailand and Sri Lanka.

In the women’s competition, Qatar 1’s Haya Ashraf and Laila Mohammed began their campaign with a difficult match against hosts Japan, losing 2–0. Qatar 2 will face Thailand today.

Qatar 3×3 basketball begin campaign against Indonesia and Chinese Taipei

Qatar’s men’s 3×3 basketball team will begin their Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Games campaign today with two challenging matches against Indonesia and Chinese Taipei.

Qatar enter this edition with high ambitions after winning the silver medal at the previous Asian Games in China. That achievement adds further significance to their current participation as they face a new challenge to deliver strong performances and maintain Qatar’s impressive presence in 3×3 basketball.

Qatar’s squad comprises Mohammed Hashim, Hamad Yassin, Nizar Mahmoud and Mubarak Jameh. The coaching staff will rely on the players’ understanding, the experience gained from previous tournaments and competitions, and the team’s physical and technical readiness ahead of the opening matches.

Retaj Al-Yafei sets new personal best in air rifle competition

Team Qatar shooter Retaj Al-Yafei set a new personal best in the air rifle competition during her participation at the 20th Asian Games in Japan.

Al-Yafei recorded a total score of 620.8 points, her best result at an international competition. The promising shooter will be looking to build on the experience gained from competing at Aichi–Nagoya 2026.

Al-Yafei finished 39th overall, while her Qatar teammate Al Maha Al-Ali placed 51st.

Team Qatar’s shooters will continue their Asian Games campaign today, Monday. Qatar’s men will compete in the individual and team air rifle events, as well as the individual and team skeet competitions.

Qatar shooting will be hoping to maintain its strong presence at the Asian Games after securing major successes and reaching the podium at the previous edition.

Qatar’s shooters will draw inspiration from their results at the Hangzhou Asian Games in China, where they claimed three medals: one silver and two bronze.

The men’s skeet team of Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah, Masoud Saleh Al-Athba and Rashid Saleh Al-Athba won silver, while Al-Attiyah claimed bronze in the men’s individual skeet event. Rashid Saleh Al-Athba and Reem Al-Sharshani added another bronze in the mixed skeet event.

Qatar men’s table tennis team face Macao today

Qatar’s men’s table tennis team will face Macao today at the 20th Asian Games in Japan.

Qatar lost 3–0 to China yesterday and will be seeking victory in today’s match.

In the women’s competition, Qatar lost their opening match 3–0 to Thailand before suffering a 3–2 defeat against Lebanon in their second encounter.

Table tennis competition at the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games will continue over the coming days, with Qatar’s men and women competing in the singles and team events and aiming to deliver their best possible performances.

Qatar women’s table tennis player Aya Magdy said the standard of competition at the Asian Games is extremely high, noting that Qatar’s squad includes several young players and that their participation provides an important opportunity to gain further experience.

Magdy said: “The table tennis competition is tough and the standard is extremely high. We have a young team, and the players are still at an early stage of their careers, but we are determined to perform at the required level and represent Qatar well.

“We are focused on gaining more experience and developing the technical and tactical aspects of our game by competing against players with considerable ability and experience. This will be extremely valuable to our development.

“We will strive to deliver our best possible performance in the upcoming matches and make Qatar proud.”

Qatar gymnasts begin Asian Games campaign

Qatar’s national gymnastics team will begin their 2026 Asian Games campaign today, with two Team Qatar athletes competing in the men’s individual all-around qualification at Nippon Gaishi Hall, also known as Rainbow Hall, in Nagoya.

Qatar will be represented in the men’s competition at Aichi–Nagoya 2026 by Rakan Al-Hareth and Mehrdad Ghadimi, who will be aiming to deliver strong performances at the major continental event. Al-Hareth and Ghadimi prepared for the Asian Games through a training camp in Armenia and are determined to perform at their best.
