CAIRO – Qatar’s Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani and Bassem Mohammed, alongside Belgian rider Abdel Saïd of Qatar’s Wathnan Showjumping Team, will compete in the 14th leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League, taking place in Cairo from October 22 to 24. Staged in partnership with the Years of Culture initiative, the event will bring together some of the world’s leading riders and horses as part of the Qatar–Egypt–Greece 2027 Year of Culture.
The Qatari riders will line up alongside an exceptional field featuring several previous Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix winners, setting the stage for three days of world-class show jumping.
Among the leading contenders in Cairo are British rider Ben Maher, a two-time Longines Global Champions Tour champion, and German rider Christian Kukuk, a Longines ambassador who claimed an impressive Grand Prix victory in London earlier this season.
Germany will also be represented by Daniel Deusser and Marcus Ehning, both highly experienced competitors on the international show-jumping circuit. French rider Simon Delestre, who won the Madrid leg’s Grand Prix earlier this year, will also be looking to add another victory to his 2026 campaign.
Against the iconic backdrop of the Pyramids of Giza, the Cairo leg is set to make its highly anticipated debut in this historic setting. Established in partnership with the Qatar–Egypt–Greece 2027 Year of Culture initiative, the event will feature some of the biggest names in show jumping as the battle for the season’s honors intensifies.
As a founding partner of the Cairo leg, the Years of Culture initiative is helping establish one of the most anticipated new destinations on the Global Champions Tour calendar. The partnership celebrates Egypt’s exceptional cultural heritage while bringing riders and spectators together through their shared passion for equestrian sport.
With total prize money of €1.75 million on offer, the Cairo leg carries considerable significance as the world’s leading riders compete for valuable championship points ahead of the season finale in Rabat.
Particular attention will focus on Belgian rider Abdel Saïd of Qatar’s Wathnan Showjumping Team, who currently leads the overall championship standings. He arrives in Cairo determined to strengthen his position at the top following an impressive victory in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Rome.
Among his principal challengers is Austria’s Max Kühner, who remains firmly in contention for the title and will be seeking a strong result in Cairo to keep his championship ambitions on track.
