The Qatar Athletics Federation carries the country’s strongest Olympic record, from Mohamed Suleiman’s first national Olympic medal to Mutaz Barshim’s Olympic and world titles. It has also positioned Doha as a leading athletics destination through the 2019 World Championships and the annual Diamond League meeting.
The federation oversees track and field development across disciplines and age groups, with a record that has produced more Olympic medals than any other Qatari sports body. Mohamed Suleiman’s 1500m bronze at Barcelona 1992 opened that chapter, and the next generations expanded it on the global stage.
Mutaz Essa Barshim remains the central figure in this story, with four consecutive Olympic medals from London 2012 to Paris 2024 and multiple world high jump titles. In parallel, Doha has built its hosting profile through the renovated Khalifa International Stadium, the 2019 World Championships, and a permanent place on the Diamond League calendar.
The federation is now working to broaden its talent base, develop relay teams, and grow women’s athletics within the long-term build-up to Doha 2030.
