The Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee manages two developing team sports with distinct pathways. Rugby achieved full World Rugby membership in 2023, while hockey won the Asian Nations Division 4 title on its first attempt in 2011.
Rugby has been played in Qatar since the 1970s, while the committee was formally established in 2006 to govern both rugby and hockey. Its work includes domestic activity, international affiliation, and wider participation programmes for men and women.
Full World Rugby membership on 11 May 2023 was a major recognition of Qatar’s progress, making it the second Gulf state and fifth Arab country to reach that status. In hockey, Qatar joined the FIH in 2008 and won its first Asian Nations Division 4 title in 2011.
The committee is expanding women’s rugby, school programmes, and hockey preparation ahead of Doha 2030.
