Qatar’s Shaheen Mohammed powers his way to Asian Wrestling Final 2026
Bishkek – Qatar’s wrestling star, Shaheen Mohammed, launched his campaign at the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships in Kyrgyzstan with a standout performance that reflected his peak readiness and strong ambition to contend for the continental title.
Shaheen secured a well-deserved victory in the opening round, defeating China’s Li Yu (5–3) in the 82kg category in a fiercely contested bout, before carrying his momentum into the semifinals.
In a thrilling clash against Kazakhstan’s Magomadov, the Qatari champion showcased remarkable composure and control to edge a dramatic 9–8 win, booking his place in the final scheduled for tomorrow, where he will face Iran’s Mohammad Hosseini in a battle for gold.
Shaheen Mohammed is widely regarded as one of the most promising rising talents in Qatar’s national team. He previously claimed a bronze medal at the Asian Championships held in Jordan last March, underlining his growing stature and consistency on the continental stage.
Mr. Abdullah Hamad Al-Musaifri, Assistant Secretary General of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation, and Head of Delegation, praised Shaheen’s outstanding performance, noting that this achievement reflects the team’s strong start to the championship and expressing confidence in the athletes’ ability to secure further success.
The 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships feature the participation of more than 300 male and female wrestlers representing 26 Asian nations, with competitions running until April 12 in a highly competitive atmosphere.
Qatar is represented by a distinguished lineup of wrestlers led by Shaheen Mohammed (82kg), alongside Aref Mohammadi (63kg), Tamim Al-Shammari (77kg), and Jafar Khan (87kg), under the guidance of experienced Armenian coach Vartan Ghazaryan, as the delegation aims to add new continental achievements to Qatar’s sporting record.

Qatar Women’s Volleyball Team Face Hong Kong
Qatar women’s national volleyball team will face Hong Kong today in the third and final round of Group D at the 20th Asian Games – Aichi-Nagoya 2026 – in Japan. Qatar will be looking for victory to bounce back from yesterday’s 3-0 defeat to South Korea in the second round of Group D. The sets ended 25-6, 25-6 and 25-10.Qatar began their campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Vietnam.The women’s volleyball competition features 14 teams divided into four groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.Qatar women’s volleyball team will be aiming to finish the group stage with a victory and a positive result that builds on the experience gained from their participation in the Asian Games, which provides an important opportunity to compete against continental opposition and gain further experience for the future.
