QNB Asia Triathlon Cup Doha 2021 gets underway

DOHA: Moroccan Jawed Abdelmoula claimed his second major title in the space of a week when he won the QNB Asia Triathlon Cup Doha 2021 on a bright sunny Friday morning at the Lusail Marina.

The tournament, organised by the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, was the first elite level race in Doha since the 2006 Asian Games.

The 27-year-old last week won the 2021 Africa Triathlon Cup in Dhakla, Morocco.

Abdelmoula, a former runner and new to the World Triathlon scene, was thrilled to win the Olympic distance in 1:42:48.

Ben Dijkstra of Great Britain finished second while Aoboa Yasumatu of Japan took the third place.

Juri Ide of Japan won women's race after crossing the finish line with a time of 1:56:54. Her compatriots Chisato Nakajima and Minori Ikeno occupied the second and third places respectively.
