Doha: Al Arabi claimed the Qatar Cup handball title prevailing over Al Duhail 35-34 in a thrilling final played at the Qatar Handball Association courts on Sunday. Al Arabi led 14-10 at half time but Al Duhail fought back to level scores at 26-26 by full-time.
In extra time, Al Duhail again surged ahead at 29-26 with their player Janus Lapajne scoring three consecutive goals. However, efforts from Al Arabi’s Mohammed and Basil Mosa, along with a crucial penalty shot from Anis Zouaoui tied he scores at 29-all, forcing a shootout which again tied at 31.
In sudden death, Zouaoui, Issa, and Ali score for Al Arabi in sudden death while Mohammed missed before Wajdi Snan making the winning strike for a creditable 35-34 victory for Al Arabi.
