Al Buenain Meets Brunei Olympic Council President at Bayt Qatar
Nagoya, Japan – H.E Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, met with His Royal Highness Prince Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, at Bayt Qatar in Nagoya on the sidelines of the 20th Asian Games – Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
During the visit, HRH Prince Sufri Bolkiah toured Bayt Qatar and explored the activities and experiences on offer, which showcase Qatar’s sporting journey, achievements and rich legacy in sport.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on a number of sporting matters of mutual interest and explore areas of cooperation between the two Olympic committees.

Team Qatar advance to Handball Semi-Finals with Victory over Iran
Aichi-Nagoya - Qatar’s national handball team qualified for the semi-finals of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after defeating Iran 31–25 in yesterday’s quarter-final.Team Qatar will face South Korea in the semi-finals after the Koreans advanced at the expense of China. The match was attended by H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of the Sports Sector at the Qatar Olympic Committee.The encounter against Iran was far from easy for Qatar, particularly in the first half, which ended with Iran leading 14–13. Team Qatar, however, overturned the deficit in the second half to secure victory.The opening stages were evenly contested before Iran established the first two-goal advantage in the 13th minute, taking a 6–4 lead after Qatar missed several attacking opportunities. Team Qatar regained their composure and reduced the deficit to one at 7–6, but Iran responded by extending their advantage to 9–6.
Team Qatar Claim 3x3 Basketball Silver at Asian Games
Aichi-Nagoya, Japan – In the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, Qatar’s national 3x3 basketball team claimed the silver medal at the 20th Asian Games – Aichi-Nagoya 2026 after losing 19–10 to South Korea in the final.Team Qatar produced a strong and consistent campaign on their path to the final, opening the competition with four consecutive victories, including wins over Indonesia and Chinese Taipei. They maintained their momentum in the knockout stages, overcoming Bahrain in the Round of 16 before defeating Mongolia in the quarter-finals to book their place in the semi-finals against Iran.The Qatari side continued their impressive run by defeating Iran to reach the gold-medal match, where they faced South Korea. Despite a determined effort, Team Qatar were unable to overcome their opponents and ultimately finished the competition with the silver medal.
Al Darwish: Aichi-Nagoya Experience Supports Qatar’s Preparations for Doha 2030
Aichi-Nagoya - Ahmed Youssef Al Darwish, Head of the Administrative Delegation of Team Qatar at the 20th Asian Games – Aichi-Nagoya 2026, stressed that the administrative delegation continues its efforts to provide all necessary requirements for Qatar’s national teams and athletes and facilitate their participation in the various competitions, in continuous coordination with the administrative and technical teams and the Games Organizing Committee.Al Darwish said: “The work of the administrative delegation began well before our arrival in Japan, through planning and coordination with the sports federations and various relevant entities. Since the delegation arrived in Nagoya, our work has continued with the follow-up of all organizational and logistical aspects, providing the best possible conditions for our athletes and addressing the teams’ day-to-day requirements, allowing them to focus fully on their competitions.”He added: “The administrative delegation is committed to coordinating between the different teams within the delegation and the sports federations, whether in relation to transportation, accommodation, training, competitions or other aspects associated with our participation. We aim to respond quickly and effectively to any requirements that may arise, ensuring the appropriate environment for Team Qatar athletes throughout the Games.”Al Darwish also highlighted the importance of the current experience as Doha prepares to host the next edition of the Asian Games in 2030. He said: “Our presence at Aichi-Nagoya is not limited to sporting participation. It also represents an important opportunity to closely observe the various organizational and operational processes involved in an event of this scale and identify experiences and practices that can benefit us on the road to Doha 2030.”
Qatar Handball Team Face Japan in Decisive Group A Clash
Aichi-Nagoya, Japan - Qatar’s handball team will face hosts Japan today in their third and final Group A match at the 20th Asian Games – Aichi-Nagoya 2026, being held in Japan through October 4.Team Qatar will be aiming for victory to secure sole possession of top spot in the group, with both sides currently on four points. Qatar opened their campaign with a commanding 40–17 victory over Hong Kong before defeating China 30–25 in their second match.The Qatari side will now seek to complete the group stage with a perfect record and advance to the quarter-finals as Group A winners.The encounter is expected to be a demanding test against hosts Japan, who have also won both of their opening matches. Team Qatar, however, will draw on the experience and ambition of its players as it continues its defence of the Asian Games title, having won gold at the last three editions in Incheon 2014, Jakarta 2018 and Hangzhou 2022.
