Debutant Al Obaidly ready for Olympics experience

Tokyo - Qatar’s promising swimmer Abdulaziz Al Obaidly is ready to make his debut at Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games when he participate in the Men’s 200m breaststroke event on Tuesday.

By participating in this Tokyo 2020 Olympics and competing against top world champions, Al Obaidly will have an opportunity to develop his swimming skills and come back home with greater experience.

In statement on Monday, Al Obaidly said:” I will do my best and fight tooth and nail to improve my personal record and to gain further experience in swimming”.

In statement to the media on Monday, Qatar's Deputy Chef De Mission Ahmed Al Darweesh said:” Everything is going well, we are working together in full cooperation, we are doing our best to take up Qatar’s sport movement to new heights”.

Mohamed Al Rumaihi will complete the official training sessions of men's trap event at Asaka Shooting Range on Tuesday ahead of the qualifications to begin on Wednesday.

Mohamed al-Rumaihi secured his spot at Tokyo Olympics when he claimed the fifth place in the men’s trap event at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships held in Doha, Qatar.

On the same track of ambition and search for glory, top team Qatar athletes are all set to begin their campaign in athletics event on July 30.

Qatar’s Superstar, Mutaz Barshim will compete in the Men’s High Jump while, his teammates Femi Ogunode will participate in Men’s 100m and 200m respectively. Ashraf Al Saifi will compete in the Men’s hammer throw and Abubaker Hayder will run in Men's 800m while Musab Adam and Abdulrhaman Saieed  will compete in 1500m.   Abdulrahman Samba will run in Men's 400m hurdles and Bashayer Al Mnawari will be first Qatari athlete to hit the track in Women’s 100m.

Qatar’s Beach Volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan will take on Italy's Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi in their second match on Wednesday.

Younousse and Tijan began their Tokyo Olympics campaign with a 21-17, 21-16 victory over Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland at the Shiokaze Park.

On the other hand, Tunisian tennis sensation Ons Jabeur was eliminated from Tokyo Olympics in the first round.

Ons Jabeur suffered a 6-4, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.

Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman failed to book her spot in the semifinals women's 100m butterfly event.

Osman clocked a time of 58.69 seconds to finish 8th out of 8 swimmers in Heat 4 to lose her chance of qualifying the next rounds.

After making history by winning the West Asia qualifying tournament to book her place at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Hend Zaza of Syria (12 years) lost her first-round match in Tokyo Olympics straight sets: 4-11, 9 - 11, 3 - 11, 5 - 11 at the hands of Austria’s Liu Jia.
