DOHA – Team Qatar’s Greco-Roman wrestling delegation returned to Doha on Thursday evening following a highly successful participation in the Arab Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship, held in Alexandria, Egypt, over seven days, in conjunction with the Ibrahim Moustafa International Tournament and the Arab Clubs Championship.
The Qatari wrestlers delivered an outstanding performance, capturing three medals in total , two gold and one silver. Shahin Mohammed claimed the first gold medal in the 82 kg weight category, followed by Aref Hussein, who secured the second gold in the 63 kg division. Ali Al-Mutawa added a silver medal in the 63 kg category, underscoring Team Qatar’s strong presence on the Arab podium.
This successful campaign came as part of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation’s comprehensive development plan, which aims to prepare athletes for upcoming continental and international events through high-level competition that enhances their technical readiness and physical conditioning while providing valuable experience against elite Arab wrestlers.
These impressive results reflect the systematic and professional approach adopted by the Federation in nurturing Team Qatar’s athletes. They also highlight the squad’s growing ambition to cement Qatar’s position among the leading wrestling nations in the Arab world, while providing a major morale boost ahead of future regional and international competitions.
On this occasion, Mr. Abdullah Hamad Al Musaifri, Assistant Secretary-General of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation and Head of Team Qatar’s delegation to Alexandria, praised the wrestlers’ physical and technical performances throughout the championship. He affirmed that Qatari wrestling continues to progress on the right path, with clear aspirations to reach the podium in upcoming international tournaments.
