Tunisian star Ons Jabeur advanced to the second round, defeating American McCartney Kessler in straight sets. Jabeur, ranked 33rd in the world, delivered a commanding performance to claim a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the first-round match. The former world No. 2, who has won five WTA titles in her career, continues her pursuit of success at age 30, having previously reached the finals of Wimbledon (2022, 2023) and the US Open (2022).
Joining Jabeur in the next round is Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, ranked 22nd globally, who staged a thrilling comeback against Czech Marketa Vondrousova, ranked 34th. Svitolina recovered from a one-sided opening set to claim a 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Meanwhile, defending champion Iga Swiatek became the first player to reach the Round of 16, extending her dominance in Doha. The world No. 2, who is chasing a historic fourth consecutive title, cruised past Greek Maria Sakkari, ranked 29th, in a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory. The match, which was originally scheduled for tomorrow, lasted just one hour, with Swiatek displaying her signature precision and control.
