Gstaad, July 13, 2018- Qatar's beach volleyball team, including Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, were knocked out of Gstaad Major after their defeat at the hands of Latvia's Plavins and Tocs in the last 24 round on Thursday.
Earlier, Younousse and Tijan, who rose to a career-high 16th in rankings on July 9, created a big stir in the main round when they stunned 10th seeds Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Nikita Liamin 21-18, 23-21 in 38 minutes. This win came following a pair of victories by the Qatar team in the qualifying round.
In the opening qualifier, Younousse and Tijan outdueled Chinese duo Zhuoxin Li and Chaowei Zhou in three sets (21-13, 16-21, 15-9) in 40 minutes.
