BEIJING - QNA - The Qatari national team has been drawn into Group E, along with Thailand and Hong Kong for the volleyball competition in the upcoming Asian Games - Asiad 2023, set to take place in China in September and October.
The draw also assigned China, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan to Group A, while Group B consists of Iran, Nepal, and Bahrain. In Group C, we find Korea, India, and Cambodia, while Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, and Mongolia form Group D. Lastly, Group F includes Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Afghanistan.
In other news, the Asian Volleyball Confederation has released the schedule of matches for the Asian Championship, scheduled in Iran from August 19 to 26. The Qatari team, participating in Group E alongside India and Afghanistan, will kick off their matches against India on August 23.
Notably, the Qatari men's volleyball team achieved an impressive feat in the FIVB World Challenge Cup, which concluded yesterday in Qatar, securing the runner-up position. This marks the first time in their history that they reached the 19th position in the FIVB international team rankings, recently released by the International Federation of Volleyball. Qatar's ranking surpassed that of well-established teams in the sport, including Chile, Czech Republic, Finland, Spain, Chinese Taipei, Belgium, and Portugal.
