Qatar wins 14 medals at 5th West Asia Para Games

Muscat: The Qatari Para Sports team secured 14 medals— 4 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze —during their participation in the 5th West Asia Para Games, currently underway in Muscat, and scheduled to conclude on Sunday.

The Games feature 612 athletes representing 11 countries from the West Asia region: Qatar, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Oman. Competitions are being held across nine sports: athletics, powerlifting, boccia, table tennis, badminton, cycling, swimming, goalball, and wheelchair basketball.

Qatar’s medals were achieved as follows: Ali Radi Arshid won gold in the 200m and 400m wheelchair T34 races, silver in the 100m, and silver in the 800m. Abdulrahman Abdul Qader earned silver in javelin, silver in shot put, and bronze in discus. Sarah Hamdi Masoud claimed silver in both javelin and discus, and bronze in shot put. Shamil Shahouf secured gold in the 50m and 100m freestyle swimming events, while Khalifa Al Mutlaq won silver in both the 50m and 100m freestyle swimming races.

The No. 1 seeds in the competition, Rashid and Mashari will be aiming to continue their impressive campaign and reach the final as they bid for a historic medal in padel’s debut at the Asian Games. Wrestling Lifts Team Qatar’s Asian Games Medal Tally to 14

Aichi-Nagoya - Team Qatar wrestler Shaheen Mohammed claimed the bronze medal in the 77kg category yesterday at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.Shaheen produced a series of strong performances on his way to bronze, opening his campaign with an 8-0 victory over Tajikistan’s Alisher Rozimadov in the Round of 16 before defeating India’s Aman 9-0 in the quarter-finals.In the semi-finals, Shaheen lost 9-0 to Iran’s Ali Reza, setting up a bronze-medal bout against Indonesia’s Andika Sulaiman, which the Qatari wrestler won 8-0.The achievement caps a strong year for Shaheen, who also won gold at the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships in Kyrgyzstan.His latest continental success reflects his continued progress and ability to compete at the highest level in Asia, while adding another medal to Team Qatar’s tally at the Games.Shaheen’s bronze took Qatar’s medal tally at the 20th Asian Games to 14 medals — three gold, six silver and five bronze  as Team Qatar athletes continued to reach the podium across different sports.Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani, President of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation, expressed his delight at Shaheen Mohammed’s bronze medal in the 77kg category, describing the achievement as an important step for Qatar wrestling. Qatar to Face Saudi Arabia in Gulf Cup Semi-Finals After UAE Draw

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – Qatar drew 1-1 with the United Arab Emirates in their final Group B match at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Thursday, setting up a semi-final meeting with hosts Saudi Arabia at the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup in Jeddah.The result saw both teams finish the group stage on seven points, with the UAE claiming top spot on goal difference. The UAE will face Group A runners-up Oman in the first semi-final on Saturday at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium, while Qatar, who finished second in Group B, will take on Group A winners Saudi Arabia in the second semi-final at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.With both sides already assured of their places in the last four, the encounter was effectively a battle for top spot and began at a competitive pace, with Qatar looking to exploit quick transitions.Qatar broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Jassem Gaber delivered a well-placed cross that Almoez Ali converted to put his side in front.The UAE responded by stepping up the pressure and creating a series of attacking opportunities. Their persistence paid off in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time when Khaled Al Tanhani played the ball to Ali Saleh, who controlled it before sending a low shot into the net to restore parity.The UAE continued to press after the restart, intensifying its search for a winning goal, while Qatar adopted a more defensive approach and looked to threaten on the counterattack.Despite sustained efforts from both sides, neither team could find a decisive second goal, and the match ended 1-1.Qatar will now turn its attention to Saturday’s semi-final against Saudi Arabia, with a place in the Arabian Gulf Cup final at stake.
