Qatar’s Ouisal Ikhlef Wins Three Medals at Asian Weightlifting Championships

Gandhinagar, India:  Qatar weightlifter Ouisal Ikhlef achieved a major milestone after winning three medals at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships for Men and Women, which concluded today in Gandhinagar, India, with the participation of 172 athletes representing 28 national federations in one of the strongest editions of the continental championship.

Ouisal claimed two silver medals and one bronze medal in the women’s +86kg category after delivering outstanding technical performances despite fierce competition against athletes from some of the world’s leading weightlifting nations, particularly China, North Korea, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, giving Qatar’s medals significant continental and international value.

The Qatari athlete secured her achievement following a strong performance throughout all stages of the competition. In the snatch event, she lifted 130kg to win the bronze medal.

In the clean and jerk event, Ouisal lifted 169kg to break her personal record of 161kg and claim the silver medal. She also improved her total score to 299kg, surpassing her previous personal best of 277kg to secure another silver medal in the overall standings.

The Qatari weightlifter faced strong competition from the world’s top two ranked athletes. China’s Li Yan, ranked number one in the world, won all three gold medals with lifts of 145kg in the snatch, 178kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 323kg.

Meanwhile, world number two Park Hyejeong of South Korea secured silver in the snatch with 131kg, while winning bronze in the clean and jerk with 167kg and bronze in the total with 298kg.
