The Qatari team led 16-12 at the end of the first half, before pulling further ahead in the second half and clinching the victory by a margin of nine goals.
Qatari goalkeeper Ahmed Magdy received the Man of the Match award, presented to him by President of the Qatar Handball Association Ahmed Al Shaabi.
The Qatari team will play their second match tomorrow against Tunisia, a victory that will secure the team's top spot in Group B and a place in the semi-finals.
Nine Arab teams are participating in the championship: Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, the UAE, and Bahrain.
