Dammam: The Qatari handball team qualified for the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship to be held in Poland/Sweden by entering the Asian Championship semifinal in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday.
The four-time defending Asian champions emerged on top of Group 1 with maximum six points after receiving a walkover from South Korea in their last main-round game. It is their ninth semifinal appearance at the competition.
Qatar, who earlier defeated hosts Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan, thus made the cut for their fifth straight World Championship after 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021.
Qatar’s last-four match, against Group 2 runners-up, will be played on Saturday, with the final scheduled two days later.
