Ostrava: The Qatari men's beach volleyball team, featuring Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, concluded their campaign at the Ostrava Elite16 tournament in the Czech Republic, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) as part of its premier Elite16 series for both men and women.
The Qatari duo exited the competition in the Round of 12, following a straight-sets defeat to Czech pair Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner, who won 21–18, 21–14.
Team Qatar had opened their tournament strongly in Pool E, securing two impressive victories. They defeated the French duo Clément Bassereau and Quentin Aye in a tightly contested match (2–1), before edging past the Austrian team of Moritz Dressler and Robin Seidl with the same scoreline (2–1). These back-to-back wins earned Qatar the top spot in their group and a place in the Round of 12.
In the knockout stage, the Qatari team delivered a standout performance, eliminating Anders Mol and Christian Sørum of Norway, the world’s top-ranked team, in straight sets (21–15, 21–17), earning them a spot in the quarterfinals.
Despite their strong showing earlier in the competition, Qatar’s journey ended in the next round against the Czech hosts. The team now looks ahead to upcoming Elite16 events as they continue their international campaign.
