Team Qatar Wrestlers aim for Global Glory at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb

Zagreb , Croatia – Team Qatar’s Greco-Roman wrestlers step onto the mat this Thursday to begin their campaign at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships, hosted in the Croatian capital Zagreb from September 13 to 22. The tournament brings together over 900 athletes from 65 countries across the globe.

Qatari star Shaheen Mohamed (82kg) will open the action with a high-stakes clash against his American counterpart, a contest eagerly anticipated by wrestling fans. His teammate Saoud Al-Mufqai will also launch his campaign in the 77kg category, facing a tough challenge against a formidable Turkish opponent.

The journey continues on Thursday, September 19, when Rafeeq Al-Natsha takes on Poland’s contender in the 72kg class. Qatar’s participation will conclude on Friday, September 20, with Aref Mohammadi battling India’s representative in the 63kg category, in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Mr. Abdullah Hamad Al-Musaifri, Assistant Secretary General of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation and Head of the Qatari delegation in Zagreb, said: “We are aiming for a strong and positive participation at this world stage, which brings together the finest wrestlers on the planet. Our ambition is to achieve a result that adds real value to our continental record.”

He added: “We are also focused on enhancing our athletes’ experience by competing against the best in the world and raising Qatar’s flag high at one of the sport’s most prestigious arenas.”

Team Qatar’s squad features a promising lineup led by Shaheen Mohamed (82kg), the Asian bronze medalist from Jordan last March, along with Aref Mohammadi (63kg), Saoud Al-Mufqai (77kg), and Rafeeq Al-Natsha (72kg). The team is guided by veteran Iranian coach Malek Ali and his Armenian assistant Kazarian.
