Rio de Janeiro: Team Qatar’s beach volleyball duo, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Elite16 Beach Volleyball World Tour, currently being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.The Qatari pair secured their place in the last eight after defeating Latvia’s Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots 2–1 (15–21, 21–17, 15–12) in the Round of 12. Earlier, they had overcome the Czech duo of Tadeas Trousil and Jiri Sedlak in the Round of 18 with a straight-sets victory (21–14, 21–18).In the group stage, Younousse and Tijan opened their campaign with a 2–0 win over the Dutch team of Ruben Penninga and Matthew Immers (29–27, 21–14). They later fell in a tight three-set battle against the French pair Theo Rotar and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat (1–2).Currently ranked ninth in the world, the Qatari duo are aiming to further improve their standing through this high-profile international event, which brings together the world’s best teams under the FIVB’s Elite16 series.

Team Qatar lead group A with victory over UAE

Doha:  Qatar’s U-17 national football team continued their flawless campaign at the Gulf Cup with a 2–0 win over the United Arab Emirates, securing first place in Group A after completing the group stage with maximum points.The match, played at Grand Hamad Stadium, saw Qatar take the lead just three minutes in, when Muhannad Jameel rose highest to head home a cross from the left. The advantage was doubled in the 27th minute after Zaid Faisal calmly slotted in a low delivery inside the penalty area, giving Qatar firm control of the contest.With the result, Qatar finished the group stage on nine points from three straight victories, three points clear of the UAE, who also advanced to the semifinals.The semifinal lineup will see Qatar face Saudi Arabia on September 30, while Iraq will take on the UAE. Both matches will be played in a knockout format, with the winners advancing to the final on October 3 at Grand Hamad Stadium.The tournament draw placed hosts Qatar in Group A alongside the UAE, Oman, and Yemen. Group B featured Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, and Kuwait.Qatar’s strong group-stage performance reinforces their status as one of the leading contenders for the title, as they aim to carry their momentum into the decisive stages of the championship. 

Team Qatar win 8 medals at Arab Shotgun Championship in Morocco

Tangier: Team Qatar’s shooters delivered an outstanding performance at the Arab Shotgun Championship, which concluded today in Tangier, Morocco, by securing a total of eight medals: five gold, two silver, and one bronze. The prestigious tournament featured 60 athletes representing eight countries, including Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, and Oman.In the trap events, Qatar’s Ray Bassil won the women’s individual gold, before joining teammates Maitha Al Binali and Khulood Al Khalaf to claim the women’s team title. Bassil then teamed up with Mohamed Al Rumaihi to secure the mixed pairs gold medal, while Amna Al Abdullah added a silver in the women’s individual trap competition. The men’s trap team of Rashid Hamad Al Athba, Mohamed Al Rumaihi, and Angelo Scalzoni also earned bronze, capping an impressive showing in the discipline.Earlier in the week, Qatari shooters had already shone in the skeet events. Rashid Saleh Al Athba captured the men’s individual gold, while Hajar Ghulam Mohammed won the women’s individual gold. The men’s skeet team, comprising Rashid Al Athba, Mohamed Al Kuwari, and Abdulaziz Al Attiya, contributed a silver medal to the tally.With this combined haul, Qatar concluded the championship at the top of the overall standings, demonstrating dominance in both skeet and trap competitions.Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, expressed pride in the achievements of the national team, noting that the results reflect the federation’s ongoing efforts to develop athletes’ skills and prepare them to compete at the highest levels. Qatar wins bid to host the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship

Manila: The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has announced that the State of Qatar has won the bid to host the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. The decision was made during the FIVB Board of Administration meeting held today in Philippine’s capital, Manila.Qatar officially submitted its bid to host the 2029 edition of the Men’s World Championship, which received high praise after thorough review and evaluation by the FIVB. The FIVB officially confirmed Qatar’s selection to host the event, marking a historic milestone as the tournament will be held in the Middle East for the first time in its 70-year history. The decision reflects Qatar’s modern infrastructure, world-class sports facilities, advanced transport networks, and its unwavering commitment to the development of sport in general and volleyball in particular. It also highlights Qatar’s accumulated expertise, human capital, and cultural and organizational legacy in hosting major international sporting events across multiple disciplines.The FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship is considered one of the oldest and most prestigious competitions on the FIVB calendar, bringing together 32 national teams from around the world.
