Oslo: Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba secured fifth place in the men’s 400m hurdles at the Oslo Bislett Games, the sixth meeting of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season.Samba clocked 48.40 seconds in a highly competitive race, producing a strong performance against some of the world’s leading hurdlers. The Qatari athlete started aggressively and remained among the frontrunners for much of the race before finishing fifth.The race was won by Brazil’s Alison dos Santos in 46.89 seconds, claiming his second consecutive Diamond League victory following his triumph in Stockholm. Norway’s Karsten Warholm finished second in 47.40 seconds, while American Caleb Dean took third place in 48.22 seconds.The Oslo meeting marked Samba’s second Diamond League appearance of the season after competing in Xiamen, China, as he continues his preparations for the major competitions ahead, including the Asian Games scheduled to take place in Japan later this year.Samba remains one of Qatar’s leading athletics stars and will be looking to build on his performances during the remainder of the season as he targets further success on the international stage.

Team Qatar Shooters Intensify Preparations for Aichi-Nagoya 2026 and Doha World Championship

Doha:Team Qatar shooters are continuing their intensive preparations for a series of major continental and international competitions, most notably the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4, and the ISSF World Shooting Championship Doha 2026, which will be hosted in Doha from November 1 to 14 and will serve as a key qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.Ahmed Khalid Al Darwish, Deputy Chairman of the National Teams Committee at the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, said that the national team began its preparations for the Asian Games at the start of the current season through intensive daily training sessions at the Lusail Shooting Range, combined with participation in Gulf, Arab, continental and international competitions aimed at enhancing technical and physical readiness.Al Darwish noted that the most recent stage of preparation came during the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026, where Qatar’s shooters delivered an outstanding performance, winning 26 medals, including 12 gold, six silver and eight bronze, to finish as the top-performing Arab team in the competition. He praised the continued support provided to Qatari shooting by the country’s sports leadership.He revealed that the men’s and women’s shotgun squads competing in trap and skeet are currently attending a training camp in Italy, where they are also taking part in one of the strongest and most competitive shotgun championships in the world. Following the camp, the team will continue its intensive preparation programme with the support of international coaches and a specialist sports psychologist to further develop both technical and mental readiness ahead of major events.Al Darwish emphasized that the success achieved by Qatari shooting in recent years is the result of continuous support and close supervision from the association’s leadership, alongside the efforts of the technical and administrative staff. He added that the national team’s calendar includes further participation in a shotgun world championship in China and the Arab Championship in Oman as part of its build-up to future competitions.The Qatari shooting delegation for the Asian Games will comprise 12 athletes, including three men and three women in trap and an equal number in skeet. Al Darwish expressed confidence in the ability of the shooters to deliver strong performances and challenge for top positions.At the youth level, he highlighted the emergence of several promising talents, with a number of young shooters currently competing at the World Junior Championship in Germany. He explained that these athletes were identified through successful domestic events such as the Nishan Ramadan Tournament and Al Sajmah Tournament and are viewed as part of Qatar’s long-term project for the Doha 2030 Asian Games.Looking ahead to the World Championship in Doha, Al Darwish described the event as one of the most important competitions on the international shooting calendar due to the allocation of Olympic qualification quotas across shotgun, rifle and pistol disciplines. He stressed that Qatar aims to take advantage of competing on home soil to secure as many qualification places as possible for Los Angeles 2028 before turning its focus to Olympic medal ambitions.He also noted that Olympic bronze medallist Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah is currently training with the national team in Italy, reflecting the association’s commitment to benefiting from his vast experience. Qatar Set for Second FIFA World Cup Appearance as the World Awaits Historic FIFA World Cup 2026 Kick-Off

DOHA  – The countdown is over as the FIFA World Cup 2026 officially gets underway on Thursday, with the United States, Canada and Mexico hosting the tournament until July 19 in what promises to be the most ambitious edition in football history.For the first time, the FIFA World Cup will be staged across three nations and will feature an expanded field of 48 teams, marking a new era for the sport's premier event.Global attention will turn to Mexico City, where the opening match will signal the start of a tournament that represents a watershed moment in World Cup history. Qatar Drawn in Group E at 2027 Handball World Championship

Berlin - The Qatari national team has been drawn in Group E of the 2027 IHF Men's World Championship alongside Sweden men's national handball team, Norway men's national handball team, and Greece men's national handball team.The tournament, featuring 32 teams, will be held in Germany from January 13 to 31, 2027, with the top three teams from each group advancing to the main round.The championship marks Qatar's 11th appearance at the Men's World Championship, having competed in every edition since 2013. The team's best result came at the 2015 IHF Men's World Championship, where it finished as runner-up on home soil.Qatar secured qualification for the 2027 tournament after finishing runners-up at the 2025 Asian Men's Handball Championship. The Asian contingent also includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.

280 Volunteers Celebrated as the Driving Force Behind the Success of the Doha 2026 GCC Games

Doha, Qatar – The Organizing Committee of the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026 paid tribute on Sunday to 280 volunteers whose dedication, passion, and professionalism helped deliver one of the most successful editions of the Gulf Games in recent history.The event hosted at the Qatar Olympic Committee headquarters, celebrated the volunteers who played a central role in the smooth delivery of the multi-sport event, held in Doha from 11 to 22 May. Their contribution helped create an exceptional experience for athletes, officials, and spectators while further demonstrating Qatar’s expertise in organizing major sporting events on the regional and global stage.Among those attending the event were Mr. Ahmed Al Jaber, Head of the Volunteers Committee, Ms. Hiba Ali Mohammed, Volunteers Committee Expert, and Mr. Salman Belmahdi, Volunteers Committee Coordinator.During his remarks, Mr. Ahmed Al Jaber paid tribute to the volunteer workforce, highlighting their commitment across all operational areas of the Games.
