Cairo: The Qatar National Golf Team has added a new chapter to its record of success, with Daniil Sokolov claiming victory at the Egypt Open Golf Championship, a tournament sanctioned by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and part of the Arab Golf Federation Series. The championship concluded last Saturday in Cairo.Displaying exceptional form and composure, Sokolov dominated the three-round event, finishing nine-under par (-9) to secure the title ahead of a strong field of top Arab and international golfers. His steady performance and mental resilience throughout the competition earned him a thoroughly deserved triumph and the winner’s trophy.Qatar’s Saleh al-Kaabi also delivered a commendable performance, finishing fourth at +1, reinforcing Qatar’s strong representation and contributing to the country’s continued lead in the Arab Golf Federation rankings.This achievement underscores the Qatar Golf Association’s unwavering commitment to nurturing elite athletes through comprehensive training programs that focus on technical precision, physical conditioning, and mental preparation — key factors in competing successfully on both regional and international stages.Sokolov’s victory was defined by sharp course strategy, precise shot-making, and remarkable consistency in navigating challenging fairways and greens. 67 Team Qatar athletes to compete at the Asian Youth Games
Manama: The 3rd Asian Youth Games kick off tomorrow in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the official opening ceremony set for Wednesday. The Games will run until October 31, bringing together more than 5,000 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees across Asia.Team Qatar will be represented by 67 athletes competing in 16 sports, including athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, equestrian (show jumping), golf, judo, jiu-jitsu, cycling, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, wrestling, volleyball, beach volleyball, and boxing. Female athletes will compete in four sports: athletics, badminton, volleyball, and beach volleyball.Qatar’s men’s volleyball team will be the first to compete, facing China tomorrow in Group B, which also includes Iran. The squad features Ahmed Taleb, Dahami Al-Ruwaili, Ghanem Al-Basti, Khalid Abdullah, Tamim Al-Awad, Hamad Ibrahim, Mazen Belorosi, Abdullah Al-Shaiba, Omar Awamleh, Badr Al-Zanari, Abdulrahman Ali, and Nawaf Al-Shammari.The volleyball competition includes 12 teams divided into four groups: Group A (Bahrain, Pakistan, Mongolia), Group B (Qatar, Iran, China), Group C (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia), and Group D (Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Indonesia).Meanwhile, the Qatar women’s volleyball team will begin their campaign tomorrow against Iran in Group A, which also features Bahrain. The squad includes Hanaa Al-Khater, Marwa Abdulaziz, Fatima Touzri, Tasneem Ali, Lamees Al-Salman, Fatima Mahrez, Wajdan Al-Waleed, Bandah Ibrahim, Lujain Mahmoud, Dana Saber, Al-Mayassa Dhiab, Aisha Al-Alawi, and Maryam Mohoub.Qatar’s beach volleyball teams also arrived in Bahrain today. The men’s team includes Ahmed Ziyad and Moussa Al-Khair, while the women’s team consists of Celine Mahmoud and Sewar Al-Asal.The Asian Youth Games feature 26 sports and 253 events, with athletes competing for 1,677 medals—including 505 gold, 503 silver, and 669 bronze. The competitions will take place across three main venues: Isa Sports City, Khalifa Sports City, and the Bahrain International Exhibition Center, along with several other supporting facilities.Head of Qatar’s volleyball delegation Saeed Jumaa Al-Hitmi described the team’s participation as an important step in developing the next generation of Qatari players.“We’re aware of the challenge ahead, especially with strong teams like China, the Asian champions, and Iran, the world champions, in our group,” Al-Hitmi said.“This tournament is a valuable opportunity for our players to gain experience and test themselves against top-level competition. Our goal is to represent Qatari volleyball in the best possible way and demonstrate that we have promising talents capable of competing with the best.”He added that the team’s preparation phase went well, expressing full confidence in the players’ readiness to deliver strong performances throughout the competition.
Team Qatar to participate in West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour in Muscat
Doha: The Qatar national beach volleyball team will take part in the 4th West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour for men and women, set to be held in Muscat, Oman, from October 17 to 23.The first leg of the tour was hosted in Doha, followed by the second in Amman (Jordan) and the third in Lebanon.Qatar’s men’s team will be represented by Mahmoud Essam and Saif Al Majid, while the women’s team will feature Haya Abu Issa and Laila Mohammed. The delegation, which departed for Muscat today, is led by Khalifa Al Hamad, a member of the Beach Volleyball Committee.The Qatari squad aims to continue its strong performances on the regional circuit, building on its recent success at the Elite16 Newport Beach World Tour event in California, USA, where Team Qatar claimed the title.During that tournament, Cherif Younousse achieved a new personal milestone by recording the highest number of blocking points, surpassing Sweden’s Jakob Helteing Nilsson and Latvia’s Kristians Fokerots.The team is also preparing for the upcoming 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships (Adelaide 2025), to be held in Adelaide, Australia, from November 14 to 23, featuring 48 elite teams from around the world.Team Qatar has a proud record on the global stage, highlighted by winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and finishing fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympics — achievements that continue to reinforce Qatar’s standing among the world’s top beach volleyball nations.
FIP Asia Padel Cup begins
Doha: Bahrain, China, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan won their Group matches in the men's section of the FIP Asia Padel Cup while Lebanon, Indonesia, UAE and Saudi Arabia won their respective group matches in the women's section on the first day of the seven-day championship which kicked off at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Friday evening.In the men's section, Bahrain playing on GrandStand 1 overcame a spirited challenge of Indonesia in Group A to start off their campaign on a emphatic note. and keep themselves ahead in the race to qualify for the last-eight stage of the championship.Kuwait is the third team in Group A.In the other results of the men's section, in Group B, China defeated Thailand 3-0 to keep them ahead of the qualifying race, Pakistan is the third team in the group and will start their campaign on Saturday.In Group C, Saudi Arabia overcame South Korea 3-0 to make a successful start to their campaign, Jordan is the third team in the group, while in Group D, Kazakhstan defeated Philippines 3-0 to make a strong start to the campaign while in the same group, Lebanon defeated Japan 2-1Only one team from each of the four men's groups will qualify for the last-eight stage where they join four other countries UAE, Qatar, Australia, and Iran, having qualified for the last-eight based on the FIP Ranking.In the women's section, Lebanon, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and UAe were off to winning starts in their respective group matches.Hosts Qatar gave a spirited fight but went down fighting 3-0 to Lebanon in the Group A match. The other team in Group A is Thailand.In the other results, in Group B Indonesia defeated Kuwait 3-0, the other team in Group B is Bahrain. In Group C, UAE got the better of Pakistan 2-1 and also in Group C, Saudi Arabia overcame China 2-1.The group leaders from each of the groups will qualify for the last-eight stage where they will be joined by Australia, Japan, Iran, and the Philippines who have already qualified for the Final 8 on virtue of their FIp rankings.Saturday's matches begin at 1.30pm, in the men's section, Kuwait take on Bahrain in Group A, while in Group B, Pakistan meet neighbours China. Group C will see Jordan taking on Saudi Arabia and the Group D matches Japan meet Kazakhstan and Philippines square up to Lebanon.In the women's section, in Group A, hosts Qatar take on Thailand and in Group B, Bahrain meet Indonesia, while the two Group Cmatches will see UAE taking on Chinaand Saudi Arabia facing Pakistan.Seventeen teams compete in the men’s tournament: Bahrain, China, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, UAE, Qatar, Australia, and Iran.In the women’s category, there are 14 teams: Bahrain, China, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, UAE, Qatar, Japan, Australia, Philippines, and Iran, Australia, Japan, Iran, and Philippines.The initial phase runs from October 17–19, with the top teams from each group advancing to the Final 8, scheduled for October 20–24.
Qatar Placed in Group A for Asian Men's Handball Championship
Kuwait - Qatar was drawn into Group A with South Korea and Oman for the 22nd Asian Men's Handball Championship, a qualifier for the 2027 World Championship.Group B of the tournament in Kuwait from 15–26 January includes Bahrain, Iraq, China, and Jordan; Group C features Kuwait, UAE, Hong Kong, and India; Group D includes Japan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.The top two teams from each group will move on to the main round, where eight teams will compete in two round-robin groups. The leading two from each will reach the semifinals and secure spots at the 2027 World Championship in Germany.Qatar seeks to retain its Asian title, having claimed victory in the last six editions, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024, and aims to qualify for the World Championship for the eleventh time in its history.Qatar achieved its best global result as runner-up in the 2015 World Championship held in Doha.The team secured the title in the 21st Asian Men's Handball Championship last year in Bahrain, defeating Japan 30–24 in the final.
Qatar 3x3 basketball team to participate in Asian Youth Games
Doha: Qatar’s national 3x3 basketball team is putting the finishing touches on its preparations ahead of the 3rd Asian Youth Games, set to take place in Manama, Bahrain, from October 22 to 31. The event will bring together Asia’s top young athletes across multiple disciplines in a celebration of emerging talent.Representing Qatar in the dynamic 3x3 format are Mohammed Saeed Badri (Al Rayyan), Bekayakan Mbodji (Al Arabi), Mohammed Diop (Al Arabi), and Azzam Mohammed Yaken (Al Gharafa). The team will be led by Captain Yassin Ismail, Head of the Qatar Basketball Federation’s 3x3 Program.The squad has been conducting an intensive training camp in Doha, focusing on tactical drills, shooting accuracy, and physical conditioning. The delegation is scheduled to depart for Bahrain on October 21.Captain Yassin Ismail emphasized the significance of this participation, noting that it represents an important step in the Federation’s long-term vision for developing basketball in Qatar.“We’re aiming to deliver a strong performance that reflects our progress and highlights the growing level of basketball in Qatar,” he said.“The team has shown great commitment and energy during training, and we’re confident they’ll represent the country with pride.”The 3x3 basketball format — known for its speed, intensity, and strategic depth — continues to grow in popularity across Asia.
